Describe the issue

Roon favorites not syncing with Tidal

Describe your network setup

Eero Gateway Pro, Nokia network box, Intel NUC ROCK server

Hey @Edward_Brewer,

Thanks for taking the time to write in!

Based on your account, it looks like you have quite an extensive Tidal library - can you please share a screenshot of your Roon Settings>Services>Tidal>Edit?

Also, we’ll need more information around your Roon ecosystem, and how your server is connected to your router. Please set up a direct ethernet connection from your ROCK directly to your primary router, and see if that helps the scan and import process.

We’ll be on standby for your reply, thank you!

Happy to do both of those things - but let me clarify first what SHOULD be syncing. If I add an album in Roon I have seen that most of the time that album shows up in Tidal (or Qobuz when I used it) as a favorite. But what about individual tracks that I favorite in Roon. Should they show up as loved or favorited in Tidal?

Edward

You probably would want to make your mail address invisible to protect your privacy.

After I restarted a bunch of stuff in my network and the ROCK server, albums I add via Roon ARE currently showing up under albums in the Tidal web interface. So maybe problem is solved. But should tracks I favorite in Roon be marked as favorites in Tidal as well?

My ultimate goal is to have both tracks that I favorite in Roon and/or Tidal sync with tracks that might favorite in Apple Music. I don’t know if that will actually work the way I want it to - with TuneMyMusic doing the sync - but I just want to make sure that things between Roon and Tidal are working as they should.

Currently when I go to the Tidal panel you asked me to screenshot and hit the Sync library now link - the process seems to happen so quickly that I am not sure whether anything is happening.

Edward

Hi @Edward_Brewer,
I believe favorited tracks should sync as well. Do you have any examples of tracks that you favorited that didn’t sync to Tidal?

Artist: Elbow
Album: Little Fictions
Track: Gentle Storm

Just did that one a few minutes ago. Tried to use the sync library now link and then reload in Tidal. Albums come in right away. Not seeing tracks though.

I lost many of my favorites trying to figure out how to sync between Tidal or Qobuz and Apple Music. I knew my backup drive was not working. I also understand that some of the albums may not map properly when switching from Qobuz to Tidal.

Hey @Edward_Brewer,

Note that the sync back to Tidal will happen, but not always right away. It may take some time before it appears.

Since some time has passed since you shared the track above - does it now appear on Tidal properly?

No it does not. The favorite track still only appears in Roon - not in the Tidal web interface or on the Tidal iOS app.

Although I have noticed the last two times I tried for force a Tidal sync from the Roon settings - it appeared the process actually was active and taking some time. Recently when I have tried to do that the message that the sync is complete comes up immediately suggesting to me at least that nothing was really happening.

Anything else I can be trying? As I said the addition of albums from Roon to Tidal is almost instantaneous in many cases. But favorited tracks from Roon to Tidal is definitely not working on my end.

Hi @Edward_Brewer ,

I was looking over your earlier posts and I wanted to clarify here, are you adding these tracks to the your library before favoriting them, or how exactly are you going about favoriting it? I just tried to add a track to my Roon library and it shows up as expected on the TIDAL side. If you’ve already added it to your TIDAL library, please note that the favorite/heart button is a Roon-side action, it does not affect tracks the TIDAL side in any way. To clarify, if you click “Add to library” on a track in a TIDAL album, this should appear in TIDAL fairly quickly, e.g.:

But clicking on the heart icon here is an action that only impacts the Roon side of things and not TIDAL:

My normal behavior has been to add albums to my Roon library over time and favorite specific tracks as it strikes me - sometimes from an album already added to my Roon library and sometimes not.

If the heart option is indeed only a Roon side action as you say then perhaps there is no problem here. I think I actually did ask if this was intended function at this process.

Hi @Edward_Brewer

Yes, this is intended behavior here. Glad we were able to clarify! I’ll also forward your feedback to the product team, no promises, but I am hopeful we’ll be able to improve this behavior down the line!
