Roon frozen, then lost core [Resolved]

Roon frozen this morning. Lost connection to Core. Stuck at two windows: One is “Choose your Core” “I want to use this Mac to manage my music library”. The other is " Authorizations" “Get more authorizations”. Neither of these windows leads to a productive place.

I am using a Mac tower server for the core and a mac mini for interface along with Lumin player.

Hi @Will_Connor ---- Thank you for the report and sharing your feedback with us, both are appreciated.

To help give me a better understanding of this issue you are reporting to us, can you please provide the following information:

  1. An expanded description of your current setup as seen here.

  2. Can you think of anything that could’ve triggered this behavior to occur?

  3. Since making this observation have you tried:

  • Power cycling all of your equipment? This would include any networking hardware as well (router, switches, etc).

  • Have you tried reinstalling Roon on any of the remote devices?

-Eric

Hi Eric,

  1. Roon 1.3, dedicated Mac tower for Core using Boot Camp. Mac Mini is running OS 10.10.5

  2. Nothing. Working fine last night. I simply put music on pause last night, hit play this morning, and nothing…
I did upgrade my other tower to Sierra, but that should have nothing to do with the Roon Core tower…

  3. I’ve power cycled Core Mac, Mac Mini and Lumin

    Have not tried reinstalling Roon

Thanks

Hi @Will_Connor ---- Thank you for the follow up.

I would recommend trying the following first:

  1. Power cycling your networking equipment to see if this re-establishes the “hand shake” between your remote devices and your core device.

  2. Please try re-installing Roon on your remote devices.

-Eric

What appears to be a malware popped up on the mac mini. Could that be the problem? Main computer (not the server core) is also exhibiting some malfunction, though no pop ups. Upgraded to Sierra and new other software yesterday. Could those downloads, if they brought in malware, infect the Server Core computer? Thanks

Eric,

I got rid of the browser hijacker malware that was on the Mac Mini. Power cycled Modem. Reinstalled Roon to Mac Mini.
Same two windows is all I get from Roon. Stuck there!! <img

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi @Will_Connor ---- Thank you for touching base and sharing your observations after the malware was removed.

Just to make sure I am understanding the current state of things:

  • The Mac tower that is hosting Roon Server, appears to be successfully running based on your first screenshot

  • The MacMini which you are trying to use as a Roon remote, is struggling to connect to the Mac Tower hosting Roon Server.

  • Can you confirm that both of these devices are on the same subnet/in same the IP Range?

-Eric

Hi, The IP settings are set to static and the Mac Server (running in Boot Camp), so I assume they couldn’t have changed. They are on the same LAN and the Mac Mini’s IP settings will automatically be within range of the Mac Server. I’ve tried restarting everything a few times and always get stuck between the two windows above. Please, there must be a solution to this…

Hi @Will_Connor ----- Thank you for following up and my apologies for the slow response.

Moving forward, I would like to see if we can isolate some variables here in order to determine the cause of this behavior. Please verify the following:

  1. Do you have any active firewalls or antivirus applications running on any of these devices? If you do, may I kindly ask you to please temporarily disable them and confirm if you can successfully connect to Roon from the Mac Mini.

  2. As a simple test can you load Roon remote on to another device (leaving the Mac Mini out of the equation for the moment) and confirm that it can successfully connect to the Mac tower hosting Roon Server.

Hi Eric, My tech guy here uninstalled/ reinstalled Roon Server on the Server Mac and is now working again. He thinks the problem may be related to my running Roon on Mac Bootcamp. I have Windows on the server mac in order to use Acourate in the future. Once have the Acourate filters running, I can move Roon to the mac world without Bootcamp, as I understand. Thanks, Will
