As much as I’ve tried (and read everything), I do not understand how to change the Roon genre hierarchy.
I clicked on the 3 bars at the top left and selected “Genre”. Then I selected a particular genre - say “Adult Alternative Pop/Rock”. I click on the 3 dots and select “Edit”. It takes me to the Genre Editor. If I select “Edit” and click on “Choose Genre”, then I get to a screen that’s titled “Pick Genre”. At this point, I have no idea what to do.
Can someone please give me a step by step on how to say, select “Adult Alternative Pop/Rock”, change it to “Adult Alternative Rock”, and place it under a “Rock” genre that is the top level?
Hi, @Claudia_Locsin, thanks for your question. I’ll try to explain how this stuff works. Am I right that you are using Genres from Roon and not your files tags?
As far as I can tell from your description, you are doing the following:
Go to Genre Browser
Select a particular Genre
Try to edit it.
As you can see from the screenshot, the tab where you try to edit your Genre do not contain a field where you ca edit Genre’s name you can .only change its parent Genre:
And unfortunately you cannot edit Genre’s name manually. But you can do the following:
Create a new Genre manually which will be called “Adult Alternative Rock” (you select an album, press edit album, in the genre field type in the name of new genre and press save)
Manually add this to albums which you consider to be “Adult Alternative Rock”
Go to Genres browser select newly created “Adult Alternative Rock” and select Rock as its parent Genre as I showed on the screenshot above
Sorry for a complex way, but this is how it works for now.
Thank you Ivan. One more question - I initially started with using Roon genres and then switched to my own tags. It seems to me that only the new files (the ones I added after I did the switch) contain only my tags. The older files have both roon’s as well as my genres. Is there a way to clean out or delete my current data files and reload from scratch again?
