Hi, Just getting my feet wet and would like to know if the Roon GUI will run on an Acer ChromeBook to be used as a remote to a Nucleus+? Or is it problematic? And I should purchase an iOS tablet?
Thanks for any feedback you can provide.
Regards,
Paul
I don’t think the remote software will run on ChromeOS as it is not a web based program.
There is a plugin that gives you a web interface, but its not a ideal experience.
Does your Chromebook support Android Apps, if it does you can run the Android Roon app.
I used to use this on my Google Pixelbook.
It wasn’t perfect but it did work.
Thank you all for the quick replies. As I looked through the system requirements for the controlling device I didn’t see any mention of Chrome OS…so I figured it was a “no go”.
No big deal I’ll just have to buy an iPad. This has been a long time coming so I really want the best
user experience.

Paul
I was in a similar situation, not having a Windows or Mac OS computer available. I went with an eight-inch Amazon Fire tablet. The screen is just big enough for Roon, the overall experience is quite decent, with good responsiveness and stability. I bet the iPad is even better as a Roon Remote. If you do get an iPad, please post your impressions here.
Ipad, Fire tablet or an Android based tablet like a Samsung Galaxy which is what I use.
Any will do the job adequately, just depends whether you prefer the iOS world or Android really.
Paul did you check if your Chromebook will run Android Apps. As if it does it should work like a tablet
The reason I bought the Acer Chromebook was it fit the bill at the time, had good reviews and was relatively cheap. Got it at the end of '19 just before everyone was working from home and all the computers jumped in price.
I didn’t have to think about sound quality/computer noise because I was using it as a remote for my Bryston BDA-3.14 which is a BDA-3 with a streamer board (raspberry pi). Actually the neat thing to me
is that all the Chromebook does is send the URL of the Qobuz track I want to hear and the 3.14 gets it and plays it directly from wired ethernet. I’m going to flip it for a brand new BDA-3, so that is why I’m looking into a Nucleus+.
Michael, no I have not checked that out, but thank you and I will. BDA-3 wait time is about two months and I’m not sure how available the Nucleus+ is. Going to find out tomorrow.

Paul
