Turned on computer with server this a.m. (Win 11). Bluetooth speakers worked fine. Roon running on two other Win 11 computers with USB Audio, Samsung mobile phone and other bluetooth speakers not recognized. No changes to server. Worked fine yesterday. Reinstalled Roon on Server, checked firewall. All ok. Very frustrating.
Thank you for your post. Diagnostics indicate that the RoonServer associated with your account uses two internet connections - on two separate networks - to connect to our servers. During troubleshooting, please try restricting the machine to a single internet connection (via ethernet) and disabling any VPNs. We need to make sure that Roon and the endpoints are on the same subnet; multicast device announcements won’t cross subnets.
Do you have multiple routers in this setup, or do you rely on multiple VLANs/subnets with this network? Please describe the network topology involved with RoonServer.
Verify that RAATServer.exe is excepted in particular.
Thanks for the quick response. You were right on. Nord VPN was the problem. I uninstalled Nord and all my devices were found by Roon. Can you tell me how I deal with that or do I need to contact them?
I’d suggest moving Roon Server to a dedicated computer. The Nucleus One is a nice turnkey solution, but if you are a bit more adventurous, consider this:
Then, you can use your VPN for whatever without worrying about interrupting Roon service in your house.
Thanks for letting us know you were able to resolve the issue by bypassing NordVPN. Yes, you can use a dedicated Roon Server to circumvent this issue, or you can look into a feature called Split Tunneling to see if you can exclude Roon/RoonServer:
Not exactly the solution I was looking for. Sure, Roon works without a VPN. The thing is, I don’t need to be connected when I’m listening through Roon. I just want to have a VPN installed on my computer, but Roon blocks any connected devices.
Hi @Marc_Erdrich, @noris mentioned split tunneling in his post—this option could allow you to use your VPN while still running Roon without issues. Would you be open to giving it a try? Let us know how it goes, and we’d be happy to help if you need any guidance!
I installed NordVPN on the computer I use as my Roon server and enabled split tunneling, adding Roon and RoonRaat to the exception list. When I open Roon on another computer (without Nord installed) it does not see my devices. Any suggestions?
Trying to stay one step ahead of you. After carrying out the above I decided to do a network reset and voilà, all devices are working. I still can’t connect to a VPN and listen to Roon, but for the moment, that’s not an issue for me. I only use the VPN for sensitive browsing. Hopefully, down the road, there will be a (simple) solution to this issue.
FYI, received this from NordVPN after reaching out to them:
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you’ve experienced while using our service.
We are aware of the LAN accessibility issues with our Windows NordVPN application, and our technicians are actively working on a solution, however, we cannot provide a specific timeline at this moment, as we want to avoid making any uncertain commitments.
Providing an estimate, only for it to be incorrect, would not be beneficial for either side. For example, if we were to say it will take five days but it ultimately takes two months, it would lead to unnecessary frustration.
We completely understand that waiting can be frustrating, and we sincerely apologize on behalf of the company.
In the meantime, we recommend disabling your VPN connection when trying to access LAN devices as a temporary workaround. If the problem remains, please try disabling the Threat Protection Pro feature components one by one to see whether the issue continues to persist after each step,
Also, as a temporary solution, you may set up a manual OpenVPN connection to access LAN devices while being connected to a VPN server:
Once again, we truly appreciate your patience and apologize for any frustration this has caused.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions or concerns.
