True I do occasionally use VPN. However, whether VPN is turned on or not there is absolutely no difference in Roon home page or search loading. I have tested with and without VPN turned on with same slow response time. Absolutely no difference at all. Furthermore, this morning I have installed another 16Gb of RAM, so Intel NUC running ROCK has total of 32Gb of RAM. There is absolutely no difference in response time. Things do not add up, there is something else wrong.
Thanks for the update and additional information! We were able to review a fresh diagnostic report from your Roon Server, and observed the following:
There is a 30-second stall with the following trace:
GET https://api.roonlabs.net/discover/1/mixes/profiles/.../mixes?...&c=tidal-us
returned after 30,803 ms, status code: 200
This is the “For You” / Daily Mixes fetch from Roon’s servers (TIDAL-sourced). It resolved successfully (HTTP 200), so it’s not a hard failure, but it’s certainly a long server-side latency.
It could possibly be tied to a large listening history being processed. If you create a fresh backup, and then delete your listening history, and reboot Roon / Roon Server, do you experience the same stalling?
Or, if you disable Tidal altogether, do you see the same slow performance?
Lastly, and my apologies if this has been glazed over, have you tested out using a different DNS server for your ROCK?
We have seen users have a better experience in the past if they change their Router’s DNS servers from the ISP provided ones to Cloudflare DNS, Quad9 or Google DNS. Can you please give this a try and let me know if it helps?
Thank you for the update.
Something does not sound right. You are mentioning “For You” /Daily Mixes took 30+ seconds to complete, why not simply skip it, if it takes so long, instead of waiting and creating frustration
History had over 4K songs. Deleting history took some 10 minutes or so. That on its own is crazy that it took so long. Is history stored locally on RoonServer or in Roon cloud? If history does negatively impact performance why you provide option to disable history or start the home page and in the background populate history as needed, if needed.
After restarting RoonServer initial home page load took ages, not clear why. What is Roon looking forso hard after deleting only playing history, absolutely makes no sense.
After initial load after restart subsequent loads are faster, but definitely not fast enough to warrant initial slow load which supposedly loaded what ever it needs, wants.
To be honest disabling TIDAL is not option that I’m going to entertain.
I never used my ISP DNS server, I use Cloudflare, but to test I switched to Google DNS, and there is no difference at all in response time.
Thank you for your post. We’d be happy to provide some clarity. On startup, Roon Server performs certain background tasks to index and analyze your library. This ensures parity with streaming services and metadata. This indexing/analysis will require variable resources from your machine, depending on the complexity and size of your library and the demand level imposed by other processes (like playback, DSP, etc).
In your case (on the ROCK), indexing/analysis are taking considerable time despite no signs of database corruption. We need broader context to determine whether this is expected or unexpected.
Can you please restart this ROCK and then share a screenshot of your RoonOS web admin page after it reboots?
Please also share a screenshot of your Tags page within Roon and your Settings → Library → Background Work page.
When you say On startup. Are we talking about Roon Server or ROON client startup?
So you are saying Roon Server performs certain background tasks to index and analyze my library. Would like to emphasize that my Roon Server runs constantly, I do not shut it down, even if there is power loss it is on UPS so it keeps running. My Background tasks are scheduled between 1am and 5am, no usage or very light usage of resources at that time. I’m more concerned about Roon Client response time, and why it takes so long to load the home page. I have cleared history as per your suggestion, and still it takes very long time.
While this may be the case for the OS, based on your screenshot, it looks like Roon Server has only been online and running for a few minutes. Keep Roon Server running for a few days to ensure the library analysis is able to fully finish before anything else.
With that, if you could, please share a screenshot of your In Settings → Library → Clean Up Library window.
