Roon icon on macOS 26 Tahoe

The Roon icon on macOS 26 is nonconforming and is therefore placed in an ‘icon jail’ (it has a big grey border).

The icon should be updated to conform to apples guidelines. It sticks out like a sore thumb now in my dock:

Oh, so that’s the reason it looks so odd. Don’t like it either !

LD

It’s been like this on Linux (Wine) for years. Here’s an alternative icon until it’s fixed.

It’s better, but still not what it should be, it’s too big, no dark mode, no transparency, etc.:

Edit: I find it actually worse, the Roon icon now stands out even more and it overlaps the active dot (which shouldn’t be possible, so that seems to be a MacOs bug)

Roon Labs please fix this, it’s not difficult. (It’s ok on iPadOS/iOS too)

Discussed here with supposedly a workaround:

And while they’re at it, update Android icons to the new (adaptive) standard.

Great. And add a dark mode version while you’re at it? The versions in this post are actualy great: Roon auf macOS Tahoe - #10 by Nepherte

Appears that the MacOS 26 icon has not been fixed in the current build.

Correct?

How it appears to me too. I personally class this a bummer, meh polish, but not a huge deal. I do think that Roon users are probably skewing high on attention to detail tho so…

So with the update to Roon today I finally updated my Mac to Tahoe. Since doing this, the Roon icon in my dock isn’t filling the tile anymore. Look’s odd. Has anyone else noticed this or found a fix? All other icons in doc are normal. See the screenshot.

This is called squircle jail and occurs because Apple now forces icons with certain properties into a smaller box. (You are lucky if none of your other 3rd-party icons are affected). As discussed here: Roon icon on macOS 26 Tahoe

A fix was promised

Still the same

Thanks. Had a look and the fix post was 22 days ago.

Hello all,

Thanks for letting us know that this is still an issue. I will reach out to the team regarding this.

Solution if people are that bothered by it.

MacOS - Applications folder

  1. Find ROON. Right-click or, hit CMD+I on the app to open its ‘get info’ window.
  2. Right-click ROON’s icon > context menu will show up. Press show package contents.
  3. Go to: App/Contents/Resources.
  4. Find the icon file,
  5. On the ‘get Info’ window from earlier - in the top left is the .icon image of the app.
  6. Drag the .icon image from the resources folder and place it right on top of the old one (top left).
  7. MacOS still adds that translucent padding, it will show as normal after replacing the icon.
  8. Remove ROON from the dock and replace for it to refresh.

Get Info Window

You’ll then be left with a normal looking icon, without the horrible grey padding.

Dark .icon works well too should you wish it.

Enjoy.

That solution was easy and worked flawlessly.

How are you liking the new affinity? I’m still looking at adding my assets and Nik
Filters from 2.6

I’ve only had a look around, haven’t used it since v1. It’s hard to undo the muscle memory of using Photoshop since the CS2 days… However, the release video of Affinity shows some really nice touches to the software. I love adobe photoshop, it’s hard to know if I can give it up.

I started with Photoshop 6 back in 2000 or so. Updated a couple of times upto CS6 and kept using that for a few years as well. So I completely understand your view. I wanted to avoid the subscription so tried Affinity and it really grew on me. For sure it’s possible to make the change.
To bring this back on topic, thanks for the tip on correcting the roon icon
