Just started using a pair of B&W PX8 via USBC into my iphone/ipad. These proport to have a DAC built into the USB circuit. Despite what I’ve read Roon seems to be down sampling both bit rate and depth. to 16 bit 44 Khz I could understand if I was using blue tooth but i’m not. The device setup for the ipad allows up to 768 & 24 bit
Using Qobuz directly it seems I’m being offered 192Khz 24 bit (but who knows)
Any ideas, I though USBc would free me of the Apple bluetooth limititions
Ive got a pair of PX8s and whilst they are a lovely listen and very comfortable, Im not sure wireless headphones (even at £600) are good enough to to reveal anything above 16/44- the difference between them and decent wired headphones is vast in my opinion (and I have tried them wired too)
Interested to know if that’s just me though.
Supposedly by using the wired connection it’s a better experience, accepting what you say about 16/44. I’ll try with my DAP, and see if I can tell any difference
Just tried out an usb headphone cable on my iPad, having realised it’s actually got a DAC built in. Never the less Roon still reports conversion to 16/44. Seems that limitation is something to do with what the OS is reporting to Roon
I’m running iPad os 18, so it’s not an OS version issue
