Roon is a product with excessive functionality that I simply do not need

A BMW M5 is more than I need. I’m torn between a Ford Focus and a cannonade mountain bike.

Before you think I’m being a jerk, I actually know several people who have made decisions like this and it’s been absolutely the right call for them at the time. Heck, I once sold my car and rode a bike for 2 years pre-kids. Not an issue. Better fit for my needs at the time. People gave me hell for it.

Try not to judge, that’s what I say to myself.

But also, try not to preach to others who might not have the same needs. If I’d told my friends with 3 kids to sell their cars and get a bike because i was so much happier, it’d be a bit weird.

Tell foobar to be more roon like in the area you think its lacking then where roon is how doing what you like…cuts both ways.

Then they should leave  - yes I’m joking…sheeesh

Its dead easy I have 2 Folders Various Artists and Multiple Composers covers everything :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

The problem is extremely simple: what is the best way to manage the Roon server using an external client? Using a media library or direct access to the file system of server?
Any competent computer technology specialist will immediately answer you: of course, with direct access to the file system, and not garbage pictures in the style of comic books. That’s the whole problem.

I think we’re nearly there now

You subscribed to an apple, and now you are complaining to the apple that it is not an orange. You can complain to the apple all you want, but it will never turn into an orange. You simply picked the wrong fruit.
Don’t waste your energy lamenting about the apple, but eat an orange instead.
Basically you are barking to the wrong apple tree. Complaining about it is fruitless, just as comparing them.
Take responsibility for your own choice.

Well Apple built a very successful business doing that hiding, so i think you are just projecting.

Enough said?

This is so… ah well, back to listening music.

With free software you get what you pay for :smiling_imp:

I don’t mind the massive addition of metadata Roon provides. I also like that it concencate various storage locations of music into “a single source of music”. I really don’t like that I cannot use it outside of my home. That means I have to create each playlist twice and also manage it on at least two separate devices. A paid software should make this much easier. At least a “Export this Playlist” feature would help.

Click the three dots to the right of the playlist in the My Paylists screen

Oh wow, I didn’t knew that. Thank you very much! That will help a lot in getting at least the songs and playlist out of Roon into my mobile phone or ultrabook so I can listen while away. This should work perfectly fine until official “Roon On-the-Go” is there

Soundiiz if you haven’t used it is very good for getting the roon playlists into any of the streaming services.

I made a few playlist in Roon using albums linked from Qobuz. I used Soundiiz to export them to Apple Music, Tidal, and Qobuz. Then, Tidal and Qobuz linked them back to Roon, so I have three copies of each in Roon; local, Tidal, and Qobuz.

I would think that the goal of a software designer (since I am one of them) is to offer what a majority of users want and need. Unfortunately there is always one that wants something different. I can guarantee you what the OP is asking for is not wanted by many, or for that matter hardly any users. Also, there are so many ways around what he is asking for that he probably could find a very easy work around.

For me Roon in conjunction with HQPlayer offers the absolute best in both ease of use, flexibility, usability, and sound quality. I personally do not believe there is a finer digital music playback system available.

The feedback on Microsoft word was that users only ever used three percent of the features so others should be removed. However, people used different features in their three percent.
