Roon is not able to load music from the specificed Music Folder

Description Of Issue
Roon is not able to load the files from the specified music folder. My setup has all my music (over 30,000 songs) on the internal drive (3 TB Fusion Drive) on my 2013 iMac. My setup has been working fine for over a year. Recently, this has stopped working. Possibly after I dowloaded a bunch of albums from Qobuz?

More details:
Roon is not able to load any files from the top level Music Folder. However, iTunes (which shares the same location) is able to read the files fine. Also, if I specify a sub-directory, say for Albert King (as you will see in the screenshots), Roon is able to load all the songs for Albert King. But not able to load any files for the top level directory.

From the logs(pasted below), it appears that Roon cannot iterate over the top level folder. However from the screenshots, in the UI, Roon is able to load the entries in the top level.

Hello @Ananth_Chandrasekhar,

I greatly appreciate the effort that you have put in to your post here, I can only hope that all reports are as detailed as yours!

I spoke to the technical team regarding the log snippets and screenshots you provided and I have a few remarks:

  • It is possible that the Music/Music nested folder structure might be triggering some strange behavior in Roon.

  • In this screenshot you have the first “Music Folder” disabled, this music folder should automatically reference the iTunes sub-folder.

As for a follow-up step:

  1. I would try to enable the first “Music Folder” in Roon Settings -> Storage and see if that changes anything

  2. If the behavior is still the same, is there any change if you remove one of the recursive “Music” from the folder path location (e.g. just have /Users/ananth/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music/ and then the individual Artist folder names)?

Finally found the problem! In the logs:

So checked the directory and sure enough I had Media soft linked to itself(!). No idea how that got created or which application created it.

Thanks for the update here, glad to hear you identified the symlink as the issue, that would definitely cause some strange behavior in Roon!
