Roon is not backing up correctly

I havn’t been able to backup Roon for quite a while.

I have a Mac mini and I’ve been trying to back up to a USB.

Here’s the screen shot of the backup folders on the USB.

Hi @Paul_Elliott,
Thanks for reaching out to us about this. In order to figure out what’s going on we would need to see the event in logs. Can you please try to force a backup again and let us know the date and time of the failure?

There is a bug under review where the Remote looses connection to the server while BU is in progress and it looks like the whole think has stopped.

If you wait long enough the BU completes (20 mins in my case) and connection is restored.

If you stop the server thinking it’s stuck that may account for only a few bytes.

Thinking about it the Remote sends and instruction to the server to start BU after that it doesn’t need connection

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your insight, though in my case I didn’t stop the server and it still back up.

Hi @Paul_Elliott,
We have identified that your Mac Mini’s drive, which is currently hosting your Roon database, is low on storage. This lack of space is causing issues with the database, leading to potential corruption.

To resolve this issue, we recommend the following steps:

  1. Free Up Space and Restore an Earlier Backup – Clear some storage on your Mac Mini to make room for the database, and then restore from a previous backup.
  2. Restore an Earlier Backup on Another Machine – Alternatively, if space cannot be made available on your current machine, you may restore a previous backup to another device with sufficient storage.

Please note that due to the current database state, creating a backup of the current copy is unfortunately not possible unless you free up some space first.

We’re here to help with any additional questions or support you might need as you work through these steps. Thank you for your attention to this matter, and please don’t hesitate to reach out for further assistance.

Hi Daniel,

I cleared some space and ran another backup at 9.06PM Weds 13 Nov.
I ran another backup to another external drive at 9.13AM Thurs 14 Nov

Is it possible to verify these backups?

Cheers

Hi @Paul_Elliott,

Based on a quick scan, it looks like your backups are falling with the following error:

Debug: [broker/filebrowser/entry] GetFSDir: volume was not available New Music USB Flash Disk Media : !volume.IsAvailable
Warn: [broker/backups] failed sync prepare1 on FileBrowser.Entry: New Music, USB Flash Disk Media : /AAA Roon B:U/RoonBackups: Result[Status=NotAvailable]

I’d triple confirm you’ve set the proper share settings on your Mac to ensure Roon maintains proper access - here’s more info:
