Roon is very slow at both. Next song is about 5 sec, both Library and Tidal. Album update in Tidal up to 10 sec. After a few songs and “next song” Setup 1 gets much slower with a minute on album update and next song. Restarting Mac Pro it is back to slow (10sec.) for a few songs before it goes back to extremely slow.
I uninstalled Roon Server, roved remains, restarted Mac Pro, installed Roon Server again, and restarted Mac Pro from scratch. Speed is now as it used to be. What file or files can be copied from the old Roon folders to get my Library back as it was. Or, how to fix the speed on the old core?
Thanks,
Frode
Setup:
RoonServer 1.5
Mac Pro 5.1
MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6
Meridian G65
MC200
218
What is the CPU utilization for you when Roon is very slow? Is your Macbook Pro close to 100% CPU usage when you notice this behavior? As for the database files, you would have to restore from a backup of the old database to get your library back to the way it was. Do you have a recent backup that you can restore from? Please let me know.
Roon is at pluss 100% at Mac Pro, max for Mac Pro is about 2200%. I am not running core at the Macbook Pro, only as Control. Haven’t check utilisation running as core. I do have a backup.
A new core works fine. I then restored my room backup. It worked fine for 1/2 hour, then slow again. Significantly slower on tidal albums than library. After a while everything is super slow, except loading library albums. Next song on local stored album is 15 sec.
I am running a backup system on a qnap tvs471, wired. Restored the same roon core. Very slow on this one as well, although not going into the forever album loading mode.
Thanks for confirming that info for us. We have seen that often times TIDAL is sluggish due to ISP provided DNS Servers (Dynamic Name Servers). What is your router’s model/manufacturer?
Are you familiar with how to access the configuration page on your router? I would suggest that you try switching the default DNS servers from your router to Google DNS or Cloudflare DNS
Can you please give this a try and let me know if it helps?
Can you please try toggling Disable IGMP Proxying in your Orbi Settings as per our Networking Best Practices and let me know if that has any effect? What is the model of your Netgear switch, is it managed or unmanaged?
The next step here would be to enable diagnostics mode for your account but just to make sure we have the proper information before doing this step, can I please ask you to provide the following:
Which Core you are currently using (QNAP or OSX)
The exact local time in your country (ex.1:32PM) that you are able to reproduce this behavior (pleas note multiple timestamps so that we can check for any patterns)
As soon as I have this information I can then go ahead and enable diagnostics mode and ask QA to take a look, but please do note that some staff is out for the holidays so it may take longer than expected to receive a reply from QA.
As of now, 10:26PM local time, I am on a new core on Qnap to be able to play music at all. Swiching back to MacOS is done in sec. Now it is soon bed time here so I will reproduce the described behavier tomorrow (Dec. 29th) 11 and 12 AM. Is this ok?
Feel free to let me know your findings and I will take a look when I am next online. Also, are you by any chance using an SSD on your MacOS? What is your library size? We have seen SSDs really help in improving Roon perfornace as noted in our Recommended Hardware Guide.
Running 4 ssd`s in Raid 10 performing 2000 MB/s read/write. Should not be a hardware performance issue. Please ask all hardware questions at once so we avoid spending days with new questions.
I apologize about the delay in getting back to you here due to the holiday. I have enabled diagnostics mode for your account but our servers have not yet received a diagnostics report from your machine. Can I please ask you to manually send the logs from your machine using these instructions? If you do not have Dropbox or Google Drive, I have also PM’d you an alternate upload method. Please provide this info and I will ask QA to take a look.
I was reproducing again from 23:22 PM (local Oslo time) to about 23:50. First 10 minutes was extremely slow, basically hanging. 2-3 minutes to upload an album. After restarting Mac Pro 23:35 it was just slow. The pattern is like this, after restarting just a bit slow and then getting worse by the time.
Just wanted to check in here with you again, I still have not received the Dropbox link. Please let me know this info when possible so that QA can review said logs.
