Roon keeps closing without warning, no idea why

And, by glitching is it a sudden dropout but it keeps playing, or, does it stop playing?

It keeps playing. It’s like the sort of glitch skip you might get on vinyl, but it’s digital obviously. Which makes me think it could be a buffer thing or something like that, but that’s a guess.

I’ve moved back to WASAPI because I don’t really like exclusive mode (it had the same issue regardless of whether it is set that way) because it seems to cause issues if I just want to switch to YouTube briefly or something. So that seems to rule out ASIO which seems to be a hassle to switch from and requires restarting Roon.

In fact, just to tweak things or mess about I think I’ve reopened Roon six times in the past hour. I like the interface and much of the software but it is proving frustrating.

Not sure if this will help any with your current issue but there is a new software release today, Build 911.

Might be worth a try?

I’ve updated to that, I’ll see how it goes when I listen next but is there any way to troubleshoot buffer issues? Or that sort of thing? The only time I’ve previously had skip issues has come from stuff like buffer size but I’m not even sure Roon has options for that on WASAPI.

Otherwise I have no idea what the issue is and so as much as I’d want to, it’d wind up being hard to justify continuing to subscribe. Hopefully a solution will come up in the next week…

If you go to Settings Audio and then click Gear then Device Setup for the Audio device, it will bring up the Device Setup Page. At the bottom, you will see a Show Advanced. Once that is open if you scroll all the way down you might see a Buffer Option, I do with my EVGA NU PRO card with WASAPI, shown below. Roon only presents options that the audio endpoint says it can use, so, your menus might be different.

It closed again overnight, this time it left a log that looks a bit more like an error:

On the other issue, my WASAPI options only yield this under advanced:

The soundcard is set up for 24/96 so I’m wondering if the max options there should be changed, but no buffer setting. ASIO gives me options for “Use maximum buffer size” and “Use power-of-2 buffer sizes” but there’s no option to avoid exclusive mode priority, making ASIO unviable even if those did fix the issue.

It’s odd because in foobar2000 I can set the size of the buffer and if you do set it too low it’ll skip. The same went for Voicemeeter, when I used that at one point for processing purposes. But I have no idea what buffer amounts it’s using and if it’s a problem, I’m only guessing it could be a cause in the absence of any real ideas as to why this would happen when it doesn’t in other software and the CPU is nowhere near overloaded?

Unfortunately I’ve just had to cancel my trial on the final day due to a lack of solution to these issues. Although the glitches were not constant, I still can’t justify paying for the software without any help to fix them. The software also crashed a couple of times suddenly while attempting to use the search feature.

It doesn’t seem like any support from Roon is forthcoming, maybe they’re more inclined to if you’re not on a trial, but I can’t pay for software that isn’t working properly without any indication the support is there to look at the logs and fix the issue.

I would have been very happy to subscribe without these issues.

I’ve been offered another trial (seems I was offered this a couple of weeks ago, but I never checked my messages) so I’ve accepted that and I’m now just waiting for Roon to sort it. Then hopefully the promised additional help in resolving this problem will come.
