How can we help?

· I'm having trouble adding music to my library

Describe the issue

I had my library completely loaded on one computer and bought a mac mini for a dedicated server. Same files, same Tidal but I can't get full library to load on Roon. It has only been about 12 hours... does it take that long?

Hi @Michael_Burke1,

Diagnostics indicate that both RoonServer instances remain active on your account - did you follow the steps here when migrating your RoonServer?

If you have a Backup stored locally that you can restore, then on the old machine, close RoonServer in the background, find your RoonServer folder and delete it or rename it to RoonServer_old.

Then, on the new machine, follow these steps:

  • Exit out of RoonServer
  • Navigate to your RoonServer’s Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RoonServer”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old”
  • Reinstall the RoonServer App from our Downloads Page to generate a new RoonServer folder
  • In Roon on other devices, press “Use another Roon Server” and connect to the new database

I did all this and it seems to have worked but it still shows my Roon Server active on my 1st machine. How do I make it inactive so it doesn’t interfere with the functioning of the new machine designated to be a Roon Server (I think I got some interference because I had an instance where after the backup seemed to work and show 17K tracks it disappeared all of a sudden and I had 420 tracks and I needed to restore a backup to get it to work again)

So I did a restore, was working well and then it lost about 14K of the tracks. Did another restore. Going to try to take all of Roon off the first machine and reinstall. Feel free to help.

Hey @Michael_Burke1,

Thanks for following up!

On your MacBook pro, have you stopped Roon Server from running? You can do this from the taskbar:

Aside from Roon, did you use TimeMachine as a way to restore your Mac settings on the new Mac Mini?

OK that was huge…I did quit the Roon Server from the Task Bar so thanks for that. For the Mac Mini I made it a minimalistic machine so I just made a local user, kept it from sleeping and loaded Roon only. It is just on my local network so the mini isn’t even using my Apple ID. Awaken on network access, prevent automatic sleep when display is off and start automatically when power failure. Auto login and Roon login on start.

Hey @Michael_Burke1,

Nice work!

Are you still having issues at this point? Were you able to get things fully loaded?
