· My devices are on a single subnet but is not visible to Roon

Do you have a complex network setup?

Describe the issue

I am using a Windows PC with Roon SW and Roon core installed on it. Everything works, *until* I leave the PC for say one hour and the password protected screen saver kicks in. After that, Roon reports "No audio devices found", and I must do a full logout from Roon, then login again, and my external DAC is found. Quite irritating having to do this several times a day.... Before I found out that I could log out and in again, I had to do a full PC restart in order to make Roon work again... I think the problem started some say 2-4 months ago.
FYI: I have an external DAC (Oppo HA-1) connected to my PC using an USB cable. I always have the latest Roon SW installed (i.e. update whenever there is a new version).

Describe your network setup

My PC is connected to a router using an Ethernet cable. The router is connected to my fiber internet access box.

Hello @Bjorn_Sigurd_Johanse,

Thank you for reaching out to Roon Support — it’s nice to see you again!

I’ve gone ahead and enabled diagnostics mode for your account, and after reviewing the logs, we can see that at 07:53:59 the system seems to have gone to sleep:

04/26 07:53:59 Trace: [RAAT::System Output] [volume/wasapi] [OPPO HA-1 USB AUDIO 2.0 DAC] Set volume to 1.000000 mute to 0 [SHARED]

After that, you logged back in the Roon at 08:20:46:

04/26 08:20:46 Debug: [accounts - LoginSSOConfirm] successful login

Could you kindly clarify:

  • Did you wake up your PC around 08:15, and at that time no audio devices were available, as shown in the screenshot you provided?
  • If music is actively playing when the PC goes to sleep, do you observe the same behavior (no audio devices after waking up)?

Looking forward to your reply so we can continue troubleshooting this together!

Question 1: Yes, I think I may confirm the Screen Save ON times and the log-back-on/Screen Saver OFF times.

Question 2: To my surprise, it seems as if Roon is playing when Screen Saver kicks in, then both Roon continous to play while Screen Saver is ON, and when I log in to my PC again, Roon still continous to play. So never stopping Roon from playing is actually a workaround, it seems. (But a workaround that requires a lot of Internet bandwidth!).

Hello @Bjorn_Sigurd_Johanse ,

Thanks for those additional details. I wonder if something could be going wrong with RAATServer, we can try to refresh it. You can generate a new RAATServer instance on your device by following these instructions, but please be aware that this will reset your Roon Settings → Audio Tab to factory settings and I would advise making a backup of any custom DSP settings you have:

  • Create a Backup of your current Roon database
  • Exit out of Roon
  • Navigate to your Roon’s Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RAATServer”
  • Rename the “RAATServer” folder to “RAATServer_old”
  • Restart the Roon App to generate a new RAATServer folder

Thanks for suggestion, but I have already done a full re-install of Roon after the problem started.

Hey @Bjorn_Sigurd_Johanse,

A reinstall of Roon and refreshing the RAATServer database vary a bit - did you specifically do the steps Noris mentioned above, or download a new instance of Roon and install it?

With this, it could also be an issue related to power management or USB device suspension on Windows. When your PC locks or goes idle, Windows may suspend or disconnect inactive devices (like your external DAC), and Roon can’t find them again without a restart or logout. Here are some additional things to try:

Disable USB Selective Suspend

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
  • Click Change plan settings for your current plan.
  • Click Change advanced power settings.
  • Under USB settings > USB selective suspend setting, set it to Disabled for both battery and plugged in.
  • Apply and restart your PC.

Try to Prevent your DAC from Sleeping

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
  • Right-click your DAC → Properties → go to the Power Management tab.
  • Uncheck: “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”.

If you’re using a screen saver with password protection, consider switching to simple screen locking without suspending devices.

You might also test turning off the screen saver altogether temporarily to see if it affects the behavior.

Let me know if any of the above help, thanks Bjorn! :raised_hands:
