Describe the issue

Roon stopped connecting to the server, even in my local machine (server and player in the same computer). If I delete databases and preferences, the connection restarts, but as soon as I restore from any of my backpus it's lost again. No changes to my configuration or computer were made before the problem started.

Describe your network setup

Ethernet and WiFi, but I mostly play Roon on the same computer the server is running.

Roon server is running on a Windows 11 computer (updated), i5 11400, 32 GB RAM.
Remotes are connected via ethernet or wifi, but Roon is mostly run from the same computer as the server.

The issue:
I suddenly stopped being able to connect to the server, no matter if trying from the local machine or any of the remotes. No changes were introduced to the computer running the server before this started to happen.
After several tries, I realized that if I removed the settings and databases via uninstall I was able to relogin into my account, detect the local music files, connect to Tidal and play music. BUT, as soon as I tried to restore any of the backups I had in order to recover my collection (metadata, non Tidal playlists, tags, etc.) the connection to the server was lost again.

Let me know what I can do so I don’t lose years worth of work in my collection.

Please don’t open duplicate Support requests. I’ve merged your duplicate into the existing request to keep everything together for the Support team. Thank you.

Since the confirmation email I’ve received after I submitted the form linked to a wrong, older support thread and the new one never appeared on the forum, I logically asumed some error ocurred on your part and that’s why I created a new thread. So this is on you, guys.
Thank you.

Let me add new information: I recovered older versions (May 23th, from when Roon was running OK) of both Database folders (Roon and Roonserver) via Backblaze, the result is the same: Roon stops connecting to the server. As soon as I delete those older versions and restore the new ones, the connection is restored.

You do use Roon’s built-in backup?

Yes, of course. The backups I refer to in the first post are the Roon backups.I’ve tried the three I have available with no luck.
The manual folder recovery I tried later was in order to check wether those backups were somehow corrupted, but it doesn’t seem to be the case.

Hi @Carlos_Olmedo ,

Thanks for reaching out. When you are stuck in an Initializing state like that, it can be due to firewall settings.

Since you are using a Windows PC, I would verify that both Roon.exe and RAATServer.exe have been added as exceptions to your Windows firewall.

You can use these instructions to add the exceptions and the executables themselves would be located in your Database Location/Application folder path.

I would also add these exceptions to any Antivirus or other Firewall blocking applications you may have and ensure that you connected to your network via a Private network, not a Public one, see this guide for more information.

Let us know if this helps!

I’ve already tried disabling Windows Firewall to no avail. Also, the problem only occurs when restoring my collection; up until that point, with a fresh and empty collection server connects ok. Finally, as I said I use the player and server on the same computer, so no network traffic should be involved.

The network is always involved when it comes down to Roon.

I’ve tried with all firewalls and virus protections disabled. Then I tried with the firewall up with Roon and RAATServer exceptioned. Neither worked.
It was kind of expected, because the connection only brakes after restoring the backups; before that, with a fresh and empty database, the server does connect.

I’ve checked that the computer’s name is still TRICICLO_PC, since it’s the name Roon seems to be excepecting and not finding.

I send screen captures of the different stages after the backup is restored and the connection is lost. The last photo (nr. 4) shows that if I delete databases and setting, connection to the server is restored.

Hey @Carlos_Olmedo,

Sorry to hear your issues persist! Could you please share a copy of your backup folder that holds the backups you’re attempting to restore?

Here is an upload link: https://workdrive.zohoexternal.com/collection/gnhz54df9ddffa33d49a3be8619bd6376a5de/external

From there, our team will attempt to review and reproduce the issue internally using a copy of your database. Thank you!

Sure thing. Later today I will upload the folder.
Thanks.

Sounds like a plan @Carlos_Olmedo , do let us know once it is uploaded, thanks!

Done. It went as a .zip file since I couldn’t upload the folder directly. Let me know if that works for you.
Have a nice weekend, guys.

Thanks @Carlos_Olmedo - our team will take a closer look and should have more information to share as soon!
