I have Sonos equipment, and Roon previously worked fine. Roon is installed on a small form factor Linux computer. The computer and all Sonos equipment are connected via wired connections and my network is run by a UDM Pro. Every time I try to play from Roon using any device (phone, iPad, etc.), it simply says “Roon lost control of the audio device”. I set Roon as priority for QoS, but that didn’t fix it. Roon Arc works to my phone, but that’s it.
Describe your network setup
UDM Pro for a router, a few Unifi controlled switches, and wired connections for everything. Sonos streaming does not work, nor does AirPlay.
The other questions we’d like to ask is : does the problem happen to your other endpoints? Does it happen for both local library & Streaming or only to one of them ?
Also, we would recommend you to try to disable QoS on your router for test purposes, let us know please whether it makes any changes.
I solved this problem. It turns out I was using a firewall on the server where I have Roon installed, and the previous ports I had opened for Roon were suddenly no longer sufficient. By opening all of the ports to my internal network, Roon was able to work again.
I just wish Roon would publish a clear list of ports that it uses to connect to various devices so we could limit the firewall openings to those ports.
