Roon loses library and devices after v2.0 upgrade on Mac Mini M1 (ref#RPFUOY)

Describe the issue

After upgrading to Roon v2.0 (1480), Roon server no longer displays my music library nor any network devices. Remote can connect to the Server. The Server is a Mac Mini (M1) running v15.1.

It didn't have any issues until the last couple of weeks. It has happened twice where waking up the Mini for the day has caused Roon to lose track of everything (library, Qobuz, all network devices). I've had to restore from a back up in order to bring it back online.

When Roon is in the state where it can not find the library, such as after upgrading the Roon app, it knows which USB drive is the location of my library. The Mini can see my network streamer. Telling Roon to scan the drive does nothing. All audio devices are gone, even the local speaker.

How do I keep Roon from forgetting all of my data & network devices, outside of restoring from a backup?

Thanks

Describe your network setup

Cisco switch, GigE direct connected to the Mini, primary computer used as Remote also GigE direct into the switch

Hey @redflatcat,

Thanks for writing in and sharing your report! It’s good to see you on the community again.

Based on your above description, it sounds like you may be experiencing a migration issue between different Roon versions.

As an initial troubleshooting step, let’s refresh your instance of Roon and Roon Server on your Mac and see if that helps. Steps to follow below:

  • Create a Backup of your current database
  • Exit out of Roon + RoonServer (from taskbar area)
  • Navigate to your Roon Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “Roon Server” and “Roon”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old” and “Roon” to “Roon_old”
  • Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
  • Verify if the issue persists on a fresh database before restoring the backup

Hi Benjamin

I followed the directions to force a rebuild of the two Roon folders. A fresh database was able to both find my music streamer & all of the files from my music drive. I had the fresh database import everything & it looked accurate.

Next I did a restore from a backup & that was also successful. It is how I have gotten myself out of the issue previously. Regular backups are saving me. Hopefully it won’t come back. Before two weeks ago, I had never needed to use a backup across 8 years of use.

If it occures again, where my music streamer and database are not found after waking up, is there anything I should collect for logs or other information that could help diagnose the issue?

Thanks
-Mike
