Describe the issue

I have been running a Sonos Play3 (S1). I added a Play5 (S2). The Play5 is running on AirPlay and is working fine. The Play3 worked previously, but now no longer works. It is listed under the devices and the protocol is via Sonos streaming which seems correct (the question above did not give me a correct choice). There is also another output device that runs through a Sonos connect to a traditional amplifier and speaker system. Roon also began losing control of this output device at the same time when I installed the Play5. I can run both systems on my iPhone from the S1 app. But Roon loses control of both. Seems like maybe there is some conflict between the two.

Describe your network setup

Standard wifi, Sonos connect wired to stereo and powering Play3, Play5 running on AirPlay.

Hi @Thomas_Walker,
Thanks for reaching out to us about this issue. I think the next step here is to enable some diagnostics on your account so our technical staff can get some more insight into what’s going on here.

However, before I enable this feature, I’d like to ask for your help ensuring we gather the right information.

First, can you please reproduce the issue once more and note the time at which the error occurs. Then respond here with that time, and I’ll make sure we review the diagnostics related to that timestamp.

I’ve reposted this a few times. Try this:
I have run into this issue multiple times over the course of Sonos constantly updating their devices. First, restart your Roon server and see if that helps. Second, what I found was that this occurred consistently in devices that were once on the S1 software and updated to S2. Products released after the S2 switch that only came within S2 software don’t seem to have this issue.

The ‘fix’ I found for this is to go into the settings of each Sonos product within the Roon app and switch the bitrate from 24 bits (S2 allows for 24/48) to 16bit. Roon will then transcode down to 16 bits and you should be able to play without an issue.

You can look at my posts here, which details my ip trace(s): Playback issues on Sonos devices after recent update to S2 version 16 and Roon server version 1359 [Roon Investigating] - #48 by benjamin
