Roon "Memory" usage higher in 1.3?[answered]

Hello. I noticed that while Roon is using alot of memory. This is while sitting idle with no analyzing or anything. Anyone else noticing higher memory usage with the new Roon version. Wanted to make sure this is normal. I’m not sure what effect it even has on my computer but wanted to ask.

Thanks,
Spencer

I haven’t noticed anything on windows or Linux that would suggest that it’s using a lot more memory, but 1.3’s enhancements in search alone could be chewing up more space.

Restart your computer and keep an eye on memory usage. If memory usage continues to grow over time then there may be a memory leak and I’m sure @support would want to take a look at that.

How large is your library in tracks?

I noticed a small increase in memory usage, perhaps 500mb.

Thanks guys. My memory usage went down to around 750 MB. I will try restarting my computer later and see if that helps too. Also, my library is very large. Around 158,000 tracks if that makes any difference.

Thanks,
Spencer

That’s a pretty large library and I would expect it to have a larger memory footprint as the search indices are going to be bigger. Not sure how much memory you have but by the screenshot you posted I’m guessing 4GB. You may want to consider upping that to 8GB to have a little more breathing room.

1.2 Gb of RAM for 158k tracks - this sounds reasonable to me. Don’t forget that right after launch Roon re-scans all folders and TIDAL collection, so give it some time to finish those things before doing the measurements.

Yeah. All good. The memory usage is back down to 750MB which I’m totally happy with. I actually have 8GB installed. It’s a robust PC. See screenshot for specs.

Thanks guys!

I have 147,101 tracks and memory usage is: 1655MB

I allocated a couple more GB of ram to my VM. Between Roon Server, Crashplan, uTorrent and Resilio Sync it was starting to get a little close to the 8GB I had allocated.

Edit: It dropped down to 1096MB after a while.
