I’ve looked at the Knowledge Base and the forum, and can’t find an answer to this question, but my apologies if it’s been up before.
I migrated from iTunes to Roon five+ years ago, but still use iTunes for importing files into the library and sometimes to find an album or file. Old habits of using the hierarchal structure break hard.
My library outgrew the 2T internal drive in the ROCK nuc I use and I’m installing a 4T SSD into the nuc to replace it.
The iTunes file structure looks like the attached picture. In the past, I had Roon monitor the “Music” folder, which is a subfolder of “iTunes Media”.
It occurred to me that “Music” might not be the right folder for Roon to watch. I also listen to audiobooks and podcasts through ARC when driving and have had problems with Roon finding them.
When setting up Roon in an iTunes migration, which folder should be set for Roon to monitor - the “iTunes Media” folder or just the “Music” folder?
@robert_vanarsdall, given the different file types in the other directories, I recommend using three Watched directories, the iTunes Music directory, the iTunes Audiobooks directory, and the iTunes Podcasts directorty. This way in case there is a file that cannot be read, you can isolate it to the type (Music, Book, Podcast), and change these as needed.
I still use iTunes/Apple Music for ripping my CDs and then importing these into Roon, no issues with this method over the past five years.
I need to reword this for anyone who might be searching for an answer to the same thing. Even after using Roon for years now, I was unaware that Roon would monitor more than one folder for the Roon library.
My assumption was that I had to choose one folder alone in a hierarchal structure (like iTunes) for monitoring. Robert steered me right - monitor all 3!
