Funny, just saw the Sibelius 7th last night, live Dvořák in Love - Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra - fun fact I didn’t know; George Eastman almost persuaded him to move to Rochester When Jean Sibelius Almost Taught at the Eastman School – Polyphonic Archive - Institute for Music Leadership
This version features my favourite mezzo-soprano, Bernarda Fink.
I think that she has a wonderful voice, and her rendition of Erbarme dich is absolutely superb to my ears.
Happy Parsifal Day to all who celebrate!
I know we’ve discussed before, but here are a few recommendations:
Probably the easiest all around choice. Superb singing, sublime conducting:
Another essential performance, albeit in slightly dated sound:
but maybe you don’t want Karajan at his most religiously intense, but you want modern sound, and wonderful singing:. this is what I will be listening to today:
Roon led me here whilst investigating the releases of the oboist Xenia Löffler. This is ideal for early morning listening. Melodic and relaxing…
I am enjoying this excellent High Definition Tape Transfers remaster in DSD256 of Karajan’s 1964 recording of Dvorak’s New World Symphony…sounds amazing!

Another excellent new music Friday pickup from HDTT…live recording from 1974 of Klaus Tennstedt conducting the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Bruckner’s 8th Symphony! Slight tape hiss vs the above Dvorak but not audible for the most part and zero compression or distortion in any of the blazing brass chorales! Tennstedt def under appreciated conductor!
