Calling Beethoven Fans
the splurge on the above Barenboim set mentions 5 complete cycles
I know the
1960’s EMI
1980’s DG
2020 DG
Dr Google mentions 5 but then goes on to describe 2 Symphony sets Teldec Staatskappelle etc
I am sure there are odd single sonatas out there but 2 more cycles ??
Any enlightenment ?
EDIT - found one Beethoven for All 2015
I think the 5th is on Teldec but I am still digging
The extra one could be the 2005 EMI Berlin, concerts and masterclasses, on DVD?
Yes I suspect that is it , I can’t find that in Tidal. The Beethoven for All is there . Its a live set with LOTS of applause , I nearly fell out of my chair !!
two of my favorite Akamus performances!
As I think I’ve mentioned previously, I am a big fan of John Wilson and his Sinfonia of London.
In my opinion, this is the best contemporary performance (and an excellent recording) of Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloe.
I have also added these favourites to my listening queue.
I purchased the CD box set. The sound on the disks played so far is fantastic. The box set title is sliightly inaccurate - the final 4 disks comprise works by other Scandinavian composers.
Same here! Great conductor, and particularly sympathetic because he is not shying away from ´light´ music such as film scores, musicals and alike. Example:
His reading of ´Daphnis et Chloé´ is excellent and wonderful, yet a bit on the romantic and symphonic side, if that makes sense. Something with a bit more of madness and drama:
