Ben with the support team here, thanks for taking the time to write in, and for your patience while our team works through each thread.
Following up on your issue, can you please provide the specific DAC models you’re having issues with? I see you have a windows 10 remote as well, does the same issue occur?
If possible, please attempt to connect your USB DACs again and share a more specific date and time?
I’d also temporarily bypass any network gear including this switch, and let me know if the problem persists.
Ben,
I do hope you read through the thread so I don’t have to explain this all over again, but here we go.
I Had a Chord Cutest DAC, but that has been returned for something else.
I currently have an Astell & Kern SE180 DAP which can function as a stand alone DAC.
I am running an iMac, with a Windows Bootcamp partition.
As I explained earlier:
ROON Works FINE if I boot up as a Windows machine.
When booted as a MAC, Roon will connect to my A&K player wirelessly, but not wired. I can play any and all DAC’s on the MAC with other software (Audirvana, JRiver Media Player, Apple Music) and they are all accessing the music stored on my SonicTransporter music server or through Qobuz.
The path is my Router/Modem, > a trendnet switch > SonicTransporter music server.
THE CONNECTION IS THERE.
All Connected DACs appear as output devices in Sound settings as well as the Audio MIDI. The problem is ROON on MAC. The only way to bypass the switch is to remove the music server from downstairs and bring it, & the power supply upstairs and connect it directly to the router. Do I REAALY need to do all that when it was working fine before?
What did the logs I sent you show?
Ben,
Just to troubleshoot further, I substituted the Trendnet switches with another switch that I have. There was no difference, I still have the same issue with USB DAC’s connected to the Mac not being recognized by Roon (But are recognized by other music programs (Audirvana, JRiver Media Player, Apple Music).
Thanks for the update. Our servers arent able to connect to your core, and so we’re not able to review a fresh diagnostic automatically. If possible, can you please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader?
Ben,
I’ve already sent the logs to connor and never heard back, but, I’ll do it again.
I expect a speedy response as I have been dealing with this problem and NO solution for almost a month.
From my sonictransporter I cleared the logs, and restarted the Roon server, then I attempted to run Roon with my Astell&Kern player configured for Disk mode which makes it an external DAC. I tried to send files from my Mac, SonicTransporter and RAAT server, but one of them exceeds your upload limit.
No, they do not appear on my phone, ipad, etc. There is no firewall problem as other music programs see my connected devices and will play music. It’s only Roon on the Mac side that is giving me problems.
No, unmanaged switches.
Also I can boot my Mac up as a Windows machine and all USB devices are seen and work with Roon.
If you can use other services on the Mac to play via a USB DAC, isn’t to say they will or should with Roon.
Are you able to get your Mac and Core connected to the same switch. Roon needs a simple but robust network or, even a small thing, can cause issues with some equipment. This in turn drives us users crazy.
I operate a fairly straight forward network.
ISP modem > Router/WiFi AP > unmanaged switch
All other WiFi APs plug into this switch as do all my ethernet equipment.
If you plug some equipment into one part, then a switch down the line and then connect into that it can cause issues with Roon.
Yes, the problem is with the MAC side and this layout has worked just fine until last month.
I could re-arrange it, but you’re talking about making changes to the network which should have nothing to do with the Mac not seeing USB DACs connected to it’s backside while using ROon.
