Roon not auto-adding new music

Since the last update, new music isn’t being automatically added to my Roon library. I have to force a re-scan every time I add new local files to the file system. I’m on macOS Monterey 12.7.6 / Intel Core i7. Anyone else seeing this?

I have been seeing this on the last couple of versions of Roon on DietPi on a NUC

It starts importing and then just stops after a while and manual scanning is required. Not sure if we are seeing the same problem or not

I’m noticing the same the past few months, though it doesn’t happen every time.

Years ago I had this issue. It went on for many months, then suddenly started working normally. I don’t remember if a particular Roon update fixed it or not. Since then, it’s been fine for years until it popped up again a few months ago.

Yes I had it in the past as well, but it was well behaved for a long time
After a server restart it works well for some time before failing again

Before my m.2 just died on my spare sever running Roon, it wasn’t adding newly added albums automatically at all. Each time it needs a kick up the a$$ and force a scan.

I’ve seen this on and off over the past 5 years. It sort of coincides with reaching a certain track count. Not an exact amount, but around 120k tracks +/- 10k.

It’d be interesting to see at what track count folks are at when they come across this to see if there’s a pattern.

Interesting thinking that.
I used to be at about 84K tracks, but deleted a load of albums and went down to about 76K track’s.

Currently at about 78,400 track’s. I’m pretty sure I went a year or two without seeing this until a few months ago Nd now it seems to happen most weeks

27k tracks now.

It was much less last time this issue popped up (I don’t exactly remember, but certainly under 10k tracks).

A Roon-ism for sure

FWIW my NUC /ROCK is behaving normally , I keep my master library on my PC and sync across to the internal SSD of the NUC

No issues.

Same here for syncing library between PC and NUC but running DietPi in my case.

Roon just suddenly seemed to stop importing part way through the import process, part albums imported as well

There are at least four brave soul’s prepared to speak out on this difficult subject,.so we could be the start of a movement

And yet, not one of them has described their setup?
Are you on internal drives, externa drives, NAS and what kind of environment? I just see the OP as being on MacOS, but not where the storage is located.

I haven’t noticed any of this behaviour, and i’m using Win 11 IoT LTSC and internal storage (exFAT), around 250K tracks..

Internal SSD for me.
Shared using SMB and synced using SyncbackPro exactly the same as I have for the last 7 years.
I have been on DietPi for almost 2 years, but this is recurrence of an old issue for me that I have seen a couple of times before in the time I have been using Roon. It feels like Roon has stopped scanning or getting notified about changes to files within the music folder.

I used to use a NAS for music storage and moved to internal drive for the reliability of adding music quickly without having to scan manually. Saying that a scan takes 10 seconds and another few to analyse and add the music

exactly same as me but using ROCK

I was using Rock for 5 years, and had the issue a couple of times then. It’s a first world problem I understand that and easy enough to work around. But happening every week it becomes a little bit of an annoyance

Salkstream III streamer running ArchLinux with an internal HDD that houses Roonserver and my music files. I rip discs to my Windows 11 Home PC, then drag and drop to the Salkstream’s internal HDD. Everything is connected via ethernet.

I’ve never had it work at all. Only a manual refresh or a restart of the server gets the new stuff to show, for me.

Yeah, I’ve only got ~27k tracks and still an issue sadly.
