@stephen_ollerton, it is not clear what you mean by either “Cannot ready any replies” or

With what specifically do you need assistance?

Hi Robert
I came to play some music this morning using my Mac book pro as remote wired to router with core as Nucleus + wired to router also Linn Akurate DSM .
When I press play on MacBook with Linn switched on to Roon there is a loud hissing noise then I hit pause to stop play there’s a loud pop noise from the left speaker.
No problem playing tidal & Kazoo using the Linn or anything else.
When choosing a reply on the community like now a page opens with History in top left corner and Roon symbol in middle of screen searching but nothing ever appears. So can’t see any replies from anyone in community.

Description of Issue

I just turned on Linn DSM start play with MacBook loud hissing noise then loud pop, bang noise from left speaker.

Tidal, Linn Kazoo plays ok through Nucleus but not Roon. Was ok last night until tried it this morning.

I merged these threads. @stephen_ollerton, please post only one thread so Roon’s support is not diluted in trying to assist you. This is in queue, they will return to the office Monday. In the meantime, the community may be able to provide some ideas also.

Hi @stephen_ollerton,

Thanks for writing in again with your issue!

First and foremost, make sure your linn device volume is turned down to a safe level.

After that, I would perform a hard reboot on the linn device, leaving it unplugged for a few minutes. I’d also test out using a different cable as well as port on your Mac - there are known core audio issues linked to Sonoma that may be playing a role in this issue.

Do you have any MUSE settings applied to your audio zone containing the linn device? Disable it if so.

I’d also ensure there are no firmware updates to the linn device, and that you have the latest version of open home running.

Hello Ben
What is open home.
What do I do after I have implemented all this.
The engineer at Linn suggests it is the Nucleus at fault here.

I’m not a Linn user but googling for Linn and Open Home gives me:

https://docs.linn.co.uk/wiki/index.php/Beta:DsDavaar#OpenHome_compatibility

Hi @stephen_ollerton,

Based on a server diagnostic, we saw an error in relation to volume setting with your Linn device and Open Home, do you not have open home running?

Here is an example:

Warn: [songcastdirect] [Linn Akurate DSM] while setting volume: OpenHome.Net.ControlPoint.ProxyError: 2:Connection timed out

Can you confirm you’ve given my other suggestions a try:

Performing a fresh firmware reinstall may also be helpful if it’s currently up to date.

If you do reproduce this issue, take note of the date, time, and track playing if applicable. Thanks! :+1:

Hi Benjamin
Never heard of open home where/how do I get it .

OpenHome is an open source software system for multiroom streaming. Information about it can be found here:

http://openhome.org

The organization is based on Glasgow, so my assumption is that Linn may be involved or use some of its code.

Ben It has been installed , where is it and what do you do with it .
Can I try reproducing the problem when I click on play using DSD ?.

@stephen_ollerton, I’m not sure @benjamin wanted you to install it, but rather determine if it is installed somewhere in your system or needs to be running. For reference, where did you install it?

I don’t know for sure ,I don’t live in a digital world ,Macintosh I think it said.I didn’t catch the rest. I only know how to do simple tasks.

Thanks Stephen. Roon support does not work over the weekends, so let’s see what Ben needs when he returns to the office Monday.

Hi @stephen_ollerton,

@Robert_F was correct in that my intention was not for you to install open home if you weren’t using it prior.

To confirm, are you able to stream content normally with Roon if your Linn devices aren’t involved? So, playing a track from the system output of your Mac, or any other endpoint?

If you hook the Linn up to your windows remote, or to your Nucleus directly, does the same issue occur?

Lastly, and my apologies if I’ve missed this along the way - does this issue occur no matter the file format of the track? Or, do certain formats play properly through the Linn device?

Are you able to perform a fresh install of the current firmware on the Linn device?

Hi Benjamin
The Issue only accrues when I enable DSD where it says sample rate conversion , configure how Roon manages output sample rate in the drop down list it says DSD and compatibility only etc , okay on compatibility only but when I click on DSD the speakers are hissing and no play is happening. It was okay when I turned it off one night then the next morning I switched it on come to press play then it happened.
Im on system output only with this Mac at the moment and the DSD option is not available in Muse settings only compatibility only, max pcm rate, max pct power of two rate, and custom. Is it not showing on this Mac because the Mac doesn’t do DSD .

Hi Benjamin
Also I don’t know how to perform a fresh install for the Linn DSM .

Hi @stephen_ollerton,

Thanks for the update!

How are the Linn speakers connected specifically? HDMI or USB?

Does this issue occur if you decode into Multi-Channel PCM through the DSM?
