I cannot get my Roon to recognize my Melco Music Library as an endpoint, Even though I have activated the „roon ready mode“ on my Melco.
Describe your network setup
FRITZ!Box 7590 Router; the ROCK is connected to the Network via a Switch, Receiver a Network address and plays Music from the internal storage and from TIDAL just fine.
What is the model of the Melco unit you’re using with Roon, and where is the device connected to the network in the topology you’ve described above?
Enable multicast and related settings in your router and/or managed switches. Also make sure that IGMP snooping is enabled, as some routers/switches will not pass multicast traffic to a port without that setting enabled.
We’ll start there. For due diligence, please verify that you’ve enabled the Zone in Roon Settings → Audio, in case you were referring to the Melco’s own RoonReady mode above.
Hi Connor,
the Melco is an N1Z Model with 6 TB of storage and the EX Upgrade and Firmware 4.35 installed. It is connected directly to a LAN Port of the router. I am not using managed switches, so not sure what settings to adjust there. I am a bit at a loss here as Most of my music library is on the Melco.
Thanks,
Reinhard
In cases like this, it’s best to eliminate all possible network-related issues, and so removing any additional gear / switches temporarily while we troubleshoot is always really helpful. Let me know if you run into the same issue without the switch.
Are you able to test out connecting the melco via USB to your ROCK? All temporarily of course, I’d like to ensure we can connect in one way or another.
Lastly, we’re not able to connect to your ROCK to enable diagnostic mode from our servers, could you please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader?
Hello,
the recmmended measures have not helped in solving the issue. I have uploded a compressed log file with the following file name: Archiv-ReinhardMaskos.zip
Upon reviewing the logs, please let me know, what other recommendations you have to make Roon recognize myMelco as a music storage archive.
To confirm, you’re attempting to add the Melco device as a storage location from your Roon Server, correct? This will grant Roon access to your library on the Melco.
If this is the case, you’ll need to head to Roon Settings>Storage and add your melco library as a watched folder.
Can you set up your Melco library as a shared folder over your network, for Roon to connect to? You’ll need to confirm that SMB sharing is enabled on the Melco side.
To add a networked watched folder, navigate to Settings > Storage in Roon and choose +Add Folder. Next, choose +Add Network Share.
Hello Benjamin,
I was finally able to connect the Melco, but only without including SMB into the network path. However, only a small part of the music files were imported into the Roon library. This is one remaining issue.
The other is with a second NAS drive I have added as a folder (QNAP). In this case Roon keeps displaying the animated “adding” icon for now almost 30 mintes, without the procss ever completing. Any idea what thismight be about?
Thanks,
Reinhard
Hello Benjamin,
the Melco is now showing as a connected folder in Roon and the count of albums and tracks went up. Strangely, the number of composers went down. In the Roon main menue I still see a spinning Roon icon and cannot access any of my music for over an hour now. Roon says it has imported 8500 tracks, it should have been some 35000 tracks from the Melco. Did Roon not like the import of that NAS storage? Should I delete the folder and start over?
Thanks,
Reinhard
Hello Benjamin,
it appears the issues are now fixed. Apparently it took Roon longer than expected to import all tracks from my Melco. After that the import of that was completed, addind the QNAP NAS was possible. The spinning Roon icon earlier was perhaps a sign of overload with another tak still ongoing.
Thank you for your help.
Cheers, Reinhard
