Describe the issue

Roon will not recognize a Meridian Ultra DAC although it is hardwired via a splitter to a Mac mini on which the Roon Core is running

Describe your network setup

Xfinity XB7-T router/modem, wired to EERO, Wired to ARAKNIS network, hardwire Ethernet CAT7 from araknis to Netgear unmanaged switch; one cable to Mac mini (green light data transmission working), second cable to Ultra DAC (green light data transfer working)

Hi @harpswell61,

Thank you for your post.

We’ve taken a close look at available diagnostics from the RoonServer instance in question, which automatically submits reports to our servers upon receipt of your tech support post here.

Roon and the Meridian can see one another and device announcements pass successfully between the two devices. However, the actual TCP handshake fails due to timeout in each case (over 67 attempts in total during the logged period without a successful connection).

The connection to RoonServer on this particular series of Meridian gear relies on delicate packet scheduling - if the Araknias or Eero networks in play involve any managed components arbiting packet scheduling, then you may need to apply a different network path or change some settings.

What is the full network topology involved, outside of the Mac Mini and the switch? Which router or mesh node is serving both RoonServer and endpoint here?

An immediate suggestion would be to swap out the ports you’re using on the unmanaged switch and upstream router connection. Verify that no separate VLANs/subnets are inadvertently created in the Araknis/Eero settings.

We’ll watch for your response. Thanks!
