Roon not working on second user account on iMac with Orbi mesh system (ref#WANS49)

Network Setup

· Do you have a mesh network? (Google Mesh, Eeros, Ubiquiti, etc.)

ARC Status

· ARC is *Not Ready*

Roon Error Code

· None of these are listed. It simply says "TIMEDOUT" or similar.

System or third-party *firewalls *or *antivirus software* can sometimes block RoonServer from reaching ARC.

·
Try adding RoonServer and its associated processes to the whitelist of any firewalls or antivirus software you have installed, including the Windows system firewall, if applicable.
[You can learn more about firewall exceptions with Roon here.](https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/firewall)

Has the status in Roon -> Settings -> ARC changed after adding exceptions in your firewalls and antivirus software for Roon?
ARC is still *Not Ready*

Don't give up yet.

· I'm stuck. I'd like to create a post to ask Roon Community for help.

Describe the issue

In the past I tried a free user account via my personal login on a iMac and it all worked. But to have maximum benefit of the Roon technic I changed to a second user account on this Mac and install again. Unfortunately it never worked again. I use a separate modem from the provider combined with a Orbi mesh system. It did not change in the meantime, so this is strange that a different user on the iMac is blocked.

Describe your network setup

Fritzbox combined with Orbi RB50, iMac to an Eversolo via Wifi, iMac to Orbi network via Wifi, Eversolo to network wired. Roon ARC was unable to securely access to Roon Server.

Hello @roon11,

Thank you for the additional details.

There is a known limitation on macOS where Roon may not function correctly under a secondary user account if that account does not have full admin privileges. Network access, background services, and ARC connectivity can all be restricted at the OS level for non-admin users.

To clarify, could you please confirm:

  • Is the second macOS user account an Administrator or a Standard user?
  • Does Roon work correctly if you sign in using an admin account on the same iMac?

As a quick test, we recommend temporarily granting the second account Administrator privileges and checking whether ARC status changes from Not Ready.

This would help confirm whether the issue is related to macOS user permissions rather than the Orbi mesh or network configuration.

Dear,

I changed the second iMac user into admin user, unfortunately without result. Roon works ok and shows complete music collection

Hi @roon11,

Thanks for the update - sorry to hear you’re still having Arc issues. I would also:

  1. Completely power down and reboot your Mac as well as your primary router

See if the same issues occur - if they do, please copy and paste the new error code you’re seeing under Roon Settings > Roon Arc > Advanced

Thank you!
