Roon Nucleus died after less than 4 years of use

Using a Roon Nucleaus as my main server with an Ayre Ex-8 DAC. After less than 4 years of using it a few times a week it has died. When connected it plays a quick sharp noise that sounds like broken glass, then loses Network connection . All updates have been done on all equipment.

Out of warranty.

Is 4 years about all I can expect out of a Roon Nucleus without having g to send it back in for repair?

For reference I’m still running several 14 year old Mac laptops at my office with no issues and drive a Toyota, so perhaps my perspective on longevity and durability is skewed.

After my AV consultant is advising me that the new Nucleus One would be a substantial downgrade, I’m hesitant to send in my Roon for repair, which will no doubt be costly and unwarrantied. Considering shifting over to a Mac mini. I could care less about the Roon interface, just trying to play all my Tidal music .

Any suggestions ?

I never post on forums and am not a pure audiophile, just a guy that loves music and expected expensive equipment to last

I would probably go with a Mac Mini M4. That way, you’re not locked into Roon, but can use Roon if you want.

That doesn’t sound like a hardware issue. If it boots and you can select a track to play then it is to all intents and purposes working. Go through the process of getting your issue investigated by Roon. It may be you have to do something like re-load software but get them to talk you through what you may need to do.

What Nucleus is the broken one ? If its a normal Nucleus , it sounds like the Nucleus One is an upgrade , maybe not for a Nucleus +

Best determinant is how many tracks in your library , < 100k is the spec of the Nucleus One
