· Roon Nucleus Rev B – Remotes hang indefinitely on pulsating logo despite healthy OS and server status
System Roon Nucleus Rev B (approx. 2019 purchase) Roon OS Version 1.0 (build 259) production Roon Server Version 2.67 (build 1661) production Lifetime Roon subscription
Clients tested: MacBook Pro running Roon Remote iPhone running Roon Remote Music library: Approximately 1,000 CDs stored on an Innuos Zen Mini via network shares Additional Qobuz and Tidal content/favourites
Backup configuration: Scheduled Roon backups configured within Roon Settings Backup destination is an Innuos Zen Mini network share Backup repository appears intact and was modified on 10 June 2026 at 02:00
Network Virgin Media Hub router Cisco switch between router and Nucleus Nucleus IP address: 192.168.0.27 Router can see the Nucleus consistently Nucleus MAC address: 54:B2:03:8C:FD
Initial Symptoms A few weeks before the current issue, a large number of tracks in playlists suddenly showed as "Unavailable" in red text. The issue resolved itself the following day and I continued using Roon normally. The current issue started recently when Roon reported: "There was an issue loading your library" After that, Roon Remotes became unable to connect normally. Current Symptoms Both Mac and iPhone Remotes: Discover the Nucleus successfully. Show the Nucleus as "Ready". Connect to the Nucleus. Display the pulsating Roon logo indefinitely. Never progress beyond that point. I have left the clients for more than 25 minutes with no change. Diagnostics Performed Nucleus Admin Page The Nucleus admin page remains accessible at: http://192.168.0.27 Current status: Operating System: OK Roon Labs Software: OK Roon Server Software: OK Database & Settings: OK Roon Server uptime increases normally Example current status: Version 2.67 (build 1661) production Running for several hours Server Restart Test
Using the Nucleus admin page: Successfully stopped Roon Server Successfully restarted Roon Server Uptime reset correctly Server returned to OK status
Account Tests Successfully logged out of and back into my Roon account via account.roon.app Subscription appears healthy No account or licensing errors visible Client Tests
Tested with: Mac Roon Remote iPhone Roon Remote Both exhibit identical behaviour.
Network Tests Router sees the Nucleus consistently Nucleus remains reachable via admin page Nucleus remains visible as a Roon Server Discovery works correctly
Additional Observations At various points during troubleshooting I briefly saw: Login screen "Add your music" setup screen "Restore a backup" link "Failed to load device state (status: 0). Please refresh" However, the current consistent behaviour is: Nucleus appears as Ready Connection attempt begins Endless pulsating Roon logo
Question Given that: The Nucleus OS appears healthy The Roon Server process appears healthy The backup repository is intact and recent All clients hang at the same point Does this look like a known 2.67 issue, database corruption?

Thanks for writing in! We were able to review a fresh diagnostic report from your Roon Server and can confirm you’re suffering from database corruption, unfortunately.
You mention you keep backups, if you can, I’d test out restoring from a backup that predates the current backup you’ve recently restored from.
Many thanks for your speed-of-the puma reply. I appreciate it - I work from home and I am all at sea without music all day .
Daft question, how do I restore from a backup. I’m not very technical and I cannot get into the Nucleus at all via the remote control apps on my iPhone and macbook. Is there a way I can do this via the admin page?
Hello again. My backup repository on the Innuos Zen Mini seems to be intact and contains multiple backups (see screenshot in the thread).
However, I can’t reach a Restore Backup option, because every attempt to connect to the Nucleus results in the remote hanging indefinitely on the pulsating Roon logo.
Is there a recommended recovery procedure from this state?
Specifically, should I:
Use the Reset button under “Roon Database & Settings” in the Nucleus web administration page, then
Restore from an older backup during initial setup?
Or is there another recovery method you would recommend first? I do not feel confident enough race ahead with settings and things - a bit of hand holding would be much appreciated.
I am still wary of using that ‘reset’ button. Not even sure that this is the way to go. I will try and comb the community for instructions. failing that I will post this out to the community to see if anyone can help.
I stopped Roon Server, renamed the RoonServer folder to RoonServer_old, and restarted Roon Server.
A new RoonServer folder was successfully created and is now present alongside RoonServer_old.
Current status:
Roon Server Software: OK
Roon Database & Settings: OK
Server uptime increasing normally
New database is being written to (available space changed from 98% to 97%)
Original database preserved as RoonServer_old
After creating the new database I was successfully able to reach the “Add your music” setup screen.
However, after backing out of that screen, both Mac and iPhone Remotes now return to hanging indefinitely on the pulsating Roon logo when connecting to the Nucleus.
The Nucleus remains fully accessible via the web administration page throughout.
Could you advise the next step from here please? I am now totally stuck.
You have my apologies for the delay in following up!
Since you do have available backups, you made the right move refreshing your database.
We were able to review a fresh Roon Server diagnostic report since the refresh, and it looks like the problem to solve now is that the server won’t stay logged in / authorized, rather than database corruption or any hardware faults (all looked healthy there).
As a small side test - if you delete the Roon mobile app from your iphone and perform a fresh install, are you able to connect normally?
With that, get a direct ethernet connection from your Nucleus directly to your primary router and reboot everything.
Let me know if the above grants you proper access, and if so, perform the same sequence for removing Roon and redownloading / installing on your other remote devices.
Our diagnostics don’t show any activity associated with your account recently, so we wanted to check in to see how we could assist further with this case.
The latest logs indicate that the Macbook is serving as your primary, active Roon Server. If it’s your intention to migrate to the Nucleus, the best next step would be to uninstall the server deeply from the Mac. This is slightly more complex than simply deleting or uninstalling Roon. We’ll send instructions once we receive an update from you here.
Hello Connor. Thanks so much for getting in touch.
[…] the Macbook is serving as your primary, active Roon Server.
I have no intention of using my MacBook as a server at all - not sure how that’s happened. I would be very grateful if you could instruct me how to uninstall the server deeply from the Mac. Thanks very much for your time - much appreciated.
Hello @benjamin and @connor . I followed your instructions to remove the Roon server from my MAC. However, when I select Roon from apps, I am stilll presented by two servers. I select the Nucleus and once again get the pulsating Roon icon. I have tried this many times, and curiously even when I have dragged the Roon Server folder into the bin, and then deleted it and restarted the Mac, the Roon Server folder is still there. The plot thickens…
Not to worry - the RoonServer folder reappearing is expected behavior. Roon Remote and Roon Server are bundled in the same package on Mac, so the folder will always be recreated when Roon launches. Deleting it manually won’t change anything.
To figure out whether the issue is with the Nucleus itself or with your Mac Remote, could you please try one thing: connect to the Nucleus from a completely different device - for example your iPhone (with the Roon app installed), or any other phone, tablet, or computer you have access to.
If the pulsating logo also appears on the other device, the problem is on the Nucleus side. If the other device connects successfully, the issue is specific to your Mac Remote and we will focus there.
Hello @vadim . Thanks for your help so far- it really is much appreciated. I have tried my Roon Remote app on my iPhone and the same problem still prevails - the pulsating jellyfish .
A fresh Nucleus diagnostic report shows we’re still running into the same underlying issue: The Nucleus’s Roon Server has never re-logged into the Roon account since the database reset on June 17, and it’s still logged out right now.
Local discovery (SOOD/mDNS) doesn’t require an account, so Remotes can always see the Nucleus and show it as “Ready.” But actually opening a session requires a logged-in, licensed server, which yours hasn’t had in three weeks. That’s why every Remote, on every device (Mac, iPhone), gets stuck on the pulsating logo indefinitely, there’s no account/license behind the server to authorize the session.
I’d be curious to see: try to access the webUI again and perform another database reset, and this time, don’t back out of the initial setup wizard once you re-connect to your Nucleus.
