Roon Offline - my internet is down and cant access Roon server

I cant access my Roon Nucleus server to listen to local music when internet is down? All devices are on the same internal network.

Which version of Roon do you have, Graham?

Latest, I always update when available

Hey @Graham_Macdonald,

Thanks for writing in! Sorry to hear you’re having issues using Roon offline!

Based on your description, it sounds like you’re attempting to only play local files - which you should be able to do! How are you accessing your local library? Are your files stored within the Nucleus internal storage?

Files are on a NAS connected to same network as Roon nucleus.

I can’t even connect to the Roon nucleus though.

Can you see your Nucleus on the filesystem; does it show up as a Volume, outside of Roon?

Have you changed anything recently?

Hi @Graham_Macdonald,
Since your local files are stored on a NAS that isn’t directly connected to your Nucleus, accessing them relies on your network. This setup means that if your router has issues, it’s expected that you won’t be able to play your music until the network connection is restored.

I had the same problem until I bought a Ubiquiti Alien which has a DNS server and router that does not rely on a WAN connection. My surfboard modem wasn’t able to function correctly if the external internet connection was down. Now the surfboard just provides the connection to the external WAN (basic modem functionality) and the Ubiquiti does everything else. (Throughput on file transfers is much faster too.)
