Describe the issue

I can't connect my Roon installed on my Mac Mini with my Synology Nas.
I go to storage, click on add folder, then click on add share, enter the location of my nas: smb://Nas/Music, put the username: Sidxxxxxxx, put the password: xxxxxx, put the workgroup: WORKGROUP, click on add network share, it goes back to the previous screen and it says: "Error loading folder Unauthorized".
I don't know what to do, can you help me?

Describe your network setup

My Mac is connected to my Fritzbox router via wired connection, my Synology NAS is also connected to the Fritzbox network via wired connection.

Hey @Carlo_Vicinelli,

Thanks so much for writing in and sharing your issue - welcome to the Roon community as well! We’re happy to have you here, but apologize in that it’s an issue that has prompted your first post.

As a first step in troubleshooting, do you happen to know which SMB versions are active on your NAS?

  • Log into your Synology NAS
  • Go to Control Panel > File Services > SMB/AFP/NFS > SMB
  • Click Advanced Settings
  • Set Minimum SMB protocol to SMB2
  • Set Maximum SMB protocol to SMB3
  • Apply changes

See if you’re able to connect after this. If not - Instead of smb://Nas/Music, try this more specific syntax:

smb://<NAS-IP>/Music

For example:

smb://192.168.1.50/Music

Another area to check - can you confirm your user profile has full read/write access to the Music shared folder on the NAS?

Lastly, if you’re on a newer macOS version, double-check System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access and File Sharing settings, though usually this isn’t the issue for NAS connections.

There’s a lot to digest here - so let me know if you have any questions at all, and if any of the above help! Thanks, Carlo! :raised_hands:
