I have Roon downloaded on my wife's Mac and it's the main way that she listens to music on Roon and this is also how I rip CDs and upload music to my server. I have an Intel NUC 11 ROCK as my server which is connected to my AVR. When she tried to open Roon on her Mac it gave her the option to use the Mac as the server or the ROCK, but the option for the ROCK has a red "connecting" dot under it and the connect button is greyed out. Up until now it has never had that screen when starting up. I have tested the Roon controller app on my phone and tablet and they both work as they should. With this happening I can no longer upload any new music I may get and my wife is not able to listen to our library while working. The only time I've tinkered with the ROCK was rebooting it and accessing the BIOS to turn off HDMI CEC in order to test playback over HMDI to the receiver rather than streaming over Chromecast.
Describe your network setup
I'm using a TP-AC1200 WiFi extender with an Ethernet cable to connect to the ROCK.
@Peter_Rodriguez it appears Roon Server is running on your wife’s Mac. You only need the app “Roon” running on it to connect to your ROCK Roon Server, and ensure the app “Roon Server” is not running.
Can you turn off Roon Server on her Mac and does that solve the problem? If this works, you also will want to make sure that Roon Server does not automatically start when her Mac is rebooted/restarted.
Thanks for writing in - it’s good to see you on the community again!
Following up on @Robert_F’s reply, I’d also be curious to see if your wife’s Mac is on the same local subnet within your local network - it needs to be on the same network as your ROCK to properly connect. The reason I ask -
Wifi extenders can sometimes cause networking issues, if you can temporarily bypass the extender and get a direct connection from your route to your ROCK, I’d be curious to see if the same issue occurs.
I’d safely stop Roon Server from running on your ROCK, and give it a reboot as well, if you haven’t yet. We’ll be on standby for your reply!
Hi l and thanks for the advice. I completely shut down the NUC and restarted and sure enough it was ready to go. Literally just started it up on the Mac a few minutes ago and it showed both the ROCK and Mac as the server choices as before, but the ROCK was selectable. Clicked and we’re all good. Looks like we’re all good now. When in doubt, follow Roy and Moss’s advice and turn it off and on again.
