Description of Issue

In Windows 10 Roon Remote starts the first time after Installation just fine (if I uninstall “Settings and Databases” during deinstallation).
Each further time it just hangs on start with just a white screen.
Worked just fine yesterday.
This is a new PC, so there was a lot of Installation/Configuration going on …)

It’s adding these lines every few seconds.

ROCK-Restart didn’t help.
Roon on iPad and iPhone works fine.

Hi @Achim_Weimer

Please try each of these steps, and try to launch Roon after each.

  1. Reboot the Windows machine
  2. Reinstall the Roon app
  3. Disable the devices firewall
    1. If this helps, please enter an exception in the firewall for Roon and RAATServer
  4. Uninstall and reinstall the graphics drivers directly from the manufacturer’s website
    1. Don’t use Window’s automatic driver updates for this — We’ve seen this cause issues in the past
  5. Download .NET Framework and reinstall it

Next Steps

If none of the above helps, please use these instructions to send us Roon logs from the device.

We’ll also want to take a look at Event Viewer logs, which give some insight into errors being reported by the OS — Please send those as well:

  1. Press Win + R and type eventvwr.msc
  2. Press OK – this should open Event Viewer window
  3. From the left sidebar go to Windows Logs > Application
  4. Right click on the Application subsection and pick Filter Current Log… from the context menu
  5. image
  6. On the Filter tab for the Logged section pick a parameter Last 30 days and press OK
  7. image
  8. Right click on the Application subsection again and pick Save filtered log file as… from the context menu
  9. Enter the log file name, for e.g. Roon_USERNAME , and press Save

Not to get in the way, but I noticed you mention that this is a new build and you are using a higher end graphics card, is this going to be a gaming machine as well?

yes, its for gaming too, and for work.
To control roon, I mostly use the ipad. The PC-App I use mostly for browsing, managing etc …

Reinstall etc didnt help, so here are the requested files:

This is getting strange now …

Roon startet to work again a few minutes ago.
So I decided to restart the PC to make shure that it works permanently.
But sadly it stopped again working after the restart.

I have tried the following (to no effect):

  • Returning to an older Graphics-Driver
  • Returning to an older complete System-Backup
  • Disabling everything in taskmanager/autostart
  • Disabling antivirus and backup-Software

I am running out of ideas …

No Idea what changed, but roon is runnig now …

PS: Seems to be IP-related, I changed the IP to the IP of the old PC

… and gone again …

I have no idea what to try …

Hi @Achim_Weimer

Roon logs aren’t providing much information, unfortunately — This is happening very early. Looking at Event Viewer:

The program Roon.exe version 1.0.0.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

If you check Problem History as it suggests, do you see any more information?

Do you have any firewall/antivirus running at all? Can you disable anything like that and let us know if there is any change?

I see only this in the history:
grafik

I already tried disabling antivirus (kaspersky) and firewall (windows), to no effect

(I have uninstalled this Digital Wave thing, to no effect)

perhaps this helps?

update:
I deinstalled some preinstalled mainboard software (asus sonic something), roon is running for now

But I will wait a day or two before marking this as solved, I have been too optimistic before

Thanks for the update, @Achim_Weimer. Definitely let us know if things continue working :crossed_fingers:

ok, roon is still running.
Seems as if this asus-software has been the problem.

Thanks for your Help!
