Roon PEQ & Sound Quality

I’m using a suggested setting from REW to use Roon PEQ to reduce a big lower bass room mode (-14.1 dB @ 35.7 Hz with a Q of 3.548). I find I like a bit of that bass boost so I an only applying-8 dB for now.

Should I be worried about reduced sound quality by putting this 1 band eq in the signal path vs bit perfect with no eq? I’ve been told that, because the eq frequency is so low and that I’m only reducing (vs increasing) the level, there will be no audible impact on the sound quality.

Also, are there settings in Roon I should be selecting to make sure the sound quality is optimal?

If the PEQ (or better yet, a full convolution filter) results in a better frequency response then it improves the SQ in your room. Without going into the esoterica of trying to optimize upsampling in Roon vs letting the DAC do its job (generally, it should not make any difference, but some people swear it does) if you adjust the signal with PEQ/convolution to account for your own speakers and room, the result will be at least more accurate then just sending bit-perfect original. As to whether you would like it better or not… you need to try it.

No.

I use Roon’s DSP/PEQ, and improves the sound in my room, with no added audible distortion or other unwanted artfacts.
