I took advantage of Naxos free download of Musik der Bach-Familie. Naxos downloads have always had (for me) extremely confused metadata and this was certainly the case here., roon will not identify this althougfh there is an entry for it at allmusic. Still, I did manage to fix most of the metadata, but despite my efforts, roon continues to misidentify one work. Tracks 2-4 are CPE Bach’s Flute Concerto in D minor - roon persists in labeling it Concerto for harpsichord, strings and continuo in D minor. I have edited the metadata in mp3tag so that WORK and PART have the correct data. I have set my choice for metadata as file. I have edited each of the tracks in roon itself to set the track title to the file title which is Flute Concerto. And, yet, roon still insists that it is Concerto for harpsichord, etc. I even restarted roon. To no avail. Is there anything else I can do to get the right metadata to display? (Just to note I did chaange the album title to Music of the Bach Family which is the title in allmusic and still roon didn’t identify the album.)
You know, this is a per album choice (edit album not tracks)?
Please consider posting screenshots depicting your changed settings and metadata for others to help you better.
Did you include the official Opus no. in correct syntax as the last thing of %WORK% tag of all affected tracks? With CPE Bach, there are two rivaling catalogues, after Helm and after Wotquenne. Some compositions have both, some not. In your case:
“Concerto for Flute, strings & Continuo in D minor, H. 484.1”
should be the correct syntax.
You need to edit %WORK% tag for all tracks assigned to a composition in identical form.
Have you read the composition description? It reads “The music… corresponds to an authenticated harpsichord concerto – but the flute adaptation may be by someone else". That would be an explanation why it does not have a Wq. #, while the harpsichord concerto does (Wq. 22, if I am not mistaken?).
Did you go through the manual identification procedure under edit album? Is the correct album visible in roon´s own metadata?
Here is the Album editor before I click on Save. I assume you know that the settings are always blank when one ebeters the Album editor.
Here is a screen shot of my setti9ngs in mp3tag
And here is the Track ediitor setting for the first movemenbt (the others are similar)
I don’t know what else I can do.
I posted some screen shots in response to another reply. I think that answers your questions.
Well I did finally manage to convince roon to identify the album. But… roon still insists that it is a Concerto for harpsichord… even when I choose File metadata.
If you have the correct file data, set Roon to use it and it doesn’t work then Roon is misbehaving. A discussion here in Roon Software Discussion is unlikely to change that. Please open a support ticket so Roon staff gets notified about it an can start looking into the case.
Your Opus identification of the composition in question is “Wq. 22, H. 426”, which is a contradiction, as Wq. 22 is equivalent to H. 425 which is the harpsichord concerto in D minor. So roon is doing everything right in identifying this composition.
Try renaming the tracks and %WORK% tag ending with “H. 484.1” which is the flute concerto.
I gave up on trying to edit the file for this album and deleted the files. Because I had it in zip form from a download I edited a new version (using MediaMonkey and mp3tag) to have ALL the metadata correct before I moved the files to the folder roon uses and now verything seems fine. roon did want to label the composition the harpsichored concerto but it allowed me to change it to the correct flute concerto.
Thanks to everyon e who offered advice, most of it was used in my re-editing.
