Describe the issue

Hi, I have Roon rock in an Intel nuc i7 pc. This is connected to a trendnet network sw synology nas , fibre networked to an Sonore Optical Rendu end point. My issue is that I get drop outs of the stream from my system when playing from the nas. I have contacted the distributor for the optical Rendu and he says my system is correctly configured and recommended I contact Roon as they can log the issues ? Please advise.

Hey @James_Drummond,

Thanks for taking the time to share your report, it’s good to see you on community again!

We were able to enable diagnostic mode on your ROCK running Roon Server, and can confirm the dropouts you’re experiencing are due to slow media loading:

Warn: [zone Optical System] Track Stopped Due to Slow Media

This typically points to a network-related issue. Can you reproduce the same dropout when only streaming audio from the system output of your mobile device, your the iPad?

I’d start with a few simple troubleshooting steps:

  1. reboot your router
  2. reboot your Roon Server
  3. test out using different ethernet cables / different ports on both your ROCK and router
  4. lastly, review your router settings, and see if you’re able to allocate additional network bandwidth to your ROCK

We’ll be on standby for your reply! :+1:

If I only stream from my nas why would changing the router settings help. My router is further upstream and not directly connected to my rock. My rock sits on a network switch as does my nas and end point. I don’t stream WAN only LAN.My router only deals with the Roon remote, WiFi to iPad.

Hey @James_Drummond,

Roon needs access to upstream services for proper metadata information, as well as access to Roon’s own servers, even when playing tracks from your local library.

It’s unclear if you’ve tested out any of the above steps I’ve mentioned - let me know the results please, and we’ll see if any improvements can be made to your system.

I’d also setup a direct ethernet connection from your NAS to your primary router, I would guess that this may likely solve your poor connection issues.
