Describe the issue

When playing from Roon on my Devialet Phantom Golds, Roon inisists on playing at full blast, regardless of what I do or adjust. And that is pretty damn loud, giving both me, my entire household and my neighbours a big shock. What the ### is going on? It used to work just fine, but went to this after the latest Roon update. Cancelling my subscription if this is not fixed ASAP.

irrelevant for this problem

No idea what is causing the full volume issue but many in the community have experienced it at one time or another. To protect against that possibility Roon implemented Volume limits.

With the Devialet zone selected, before starting any music, or possibly paused, click on the speaker icon lower right. From your description I’m assuming it is showing 100%.

The popup from clicking the speaker icon will have a gear icon. Click on that. At the bottom under audio device click on volume limits. Set the comfort limit to the highest level your usually comfortable with. I use 20 on the device I’m looking at. Set the safety limits max to the same value. Then going back to the speaker icon popup use the minus (-) button to lower the volume until the slider shows to be in the range you selected.

Last week I started using an Audioquest Cobalt plugged into my Laptop.
When I selected that zone the speaker Icon displayed 100%. So I used the procedure above to get it safely limited before I plugged the headphones into the Cobalt Dac.

I’ve experienced this full volume issue several times so I have every zone volume limiter set even if it has never had the issue.

I turned off roon volume control completely. Control only via renderer/amp.
Maybe this is an option for you es well?

Hi @Knut_Rorbakken,
Than you for reaching out to us for help with this issue. @Mike_LC makes a good note about volume limits. It’s a good idea to have those set for all of your audio devices. To figure out why this is happening can you please share a screenshot of your device settings in Roon for the Devialet? There are a number of volume settings that can be adjusted to address this issue.

I turned off roon volume control completely.

How do you do that?

For the zone, go to Device Settings, and select Fixed volume under Volume control.

Hi @Knut_Rorbakken,
Thank you for the screenshots. I think setting fixed volume and controlling the volume level from the Devialet remote would be the best choice to avoid the full volume issue. Fixed volume has Roon send out a fixed level signal and let’s the receiving device control the actual outputted volume level. Can you try that and see if it works for you?

OK, I can try that. What is the actual sound level of the fixed level from Roon?

Fixed volume removes Roon from volume control entirely. So volume level is up to the source file and then attenuated by your Devialet settings.
