Seems the diagnostic still is not reaching our servers.
Can you please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader? Once logs have been uploaded, please let us know so that we can check the server for your files, thanks!
My understanding is that the XIO USB port is for service only, but let me know if thatâs not right. Also, the XIO is already connected to my router via Ethernet.
Can you please clarify? Also, if there is a way to get on a quick call to discuss, that would be my preference given all of the back and forth.
That âtypeâ:âLOAD_CANCELLEDâ comes from the Chromecast (or Cast-enabled device) side â it means that the LOAD command sent by Roon (or whatever cast client is in use) was explicitly cancelled before the media session could fully establish.
Then shortly after:
"reason":"INVALID_MEDIA_SESSION_ID"
This shows the player had no valid session to attach the stream to, because the initial load got canceled.
Did you have the XIO playing via chromecast, or via a network connection? Could you share a screenshot of your Roon Settings > Audio?
Yes, Iâve had the KEF XIO configured as âvia Chromecast streamingâ, see screenshot below. The other available option is to stream âvia AirPlay2â. How does one stream via a ânetwork connectionâ? What does that mean? Also, is streaming via AirPlay worse in terms of quality, should that be my next step?
Your KEF supports several digital protocols that rely on a network connection (other than Chromecast, it supports Airplay and UPnP/DLNA). My colleague was curious which protocols other than Chromecast you had tried, since that might illuminate a common network problem underpinning audio transport in this environment.
Airplay and Chromecast arenât equivalent, but they have distinct advantages Chromecast supports higher resolution FLAC playback (24 bit/96KHz) natively, but doesnât tend to perform as well with multi-room sync across endpoints. Airplay 1 and 2 are both more limited in terms of the file quality they support, but offer more precise and reliable grouped playback.
Both are TCP protocols that have some built-in resilience to WiFi interference or mismanaged network traffic.
Do you see the KEF XIO listed under âother networked devicesâ in Roon Settings â Audio? If so, try to enable and play to that Zone for testing. Otherwise, weâd like to ask you to try Airplay with the KEF speaker, to see if can reproduce dropouts.
Thanks for this. The only two options that I see under âother networked devicesâ relating to the XIO are Chromecast (which I was previously connected to and was having issues with) and Airplay2. You can see them both in the screenshot above. The issues Iâve been experiencing have been coming up on the Chromecast connection. Over the past few days Iâve been playing through the Airplay2 connection and have not experienced any drop outs. I have not adjusted streaming quality.
My only other option to connect to the XIO appears under the âRoon Readyâ section (screenshot below), but when I click âEnableâ I get an error message for this (screenshot also below) saying that the manufacturer has not yet completed the certification for this device. I reached out to KEF about this and they replied as follows: âThere is no specific plan or date as yet but Iâll certainly add your service suggestion to the other customers for future consideration.â
Does this mean that my only option here is to listen through Airplay2?
Technically, you can play higher resolution via RAAT to the Wiim, than you can through Airplay. Whether that sounds better to you, only you can answer. I have my own opinions that I can share privately, but, I donât like posting SQ opinions in a support thread.
You would need to try that out. Some places have amazing return policies if it doesnât work. Keep in mind that by specs, Toslinkâs resolution limit is 24/96. It might do 24/192 but that would depend upon the implementation of Toslink on the different devices.
I do know that I use a Wiim Pro as an endpoint to feed an older NAD speaker via Toslink (limited to 96 due to the NAD speaker) over WiFi and it works just fine. Listening to it now.
Thanks for letting us know that Airplay is working as expected. It does seem like there is something related to the Chromecast playback that is going wrong, so using Airplay until the Roon Ready certification is complete does sound like the best option for the time being. There are also a few other things you can try to see if they help, you can try to restore the factory defaults on the XIO, and try to stream chromecast audio from another device to the XIO see if the issue reproduces. Itâs also possible that a setting related to your router is causing Chromecast to fail more often (such as IGMP Proxying/Snooping).
