ROON R.P.M (aka play speed) when streaming a song? How can I see this?

How can I “visually” show the ‘correct’ play speed of my Roon streams.

Hi all, when I start play in Roon or switch channels quickly I end up playing songs at the wrong speed. Especially with ‘drone’ and other slow electronic/space music this cannot be noticed immediately.

Sometimes Roon stops after a while because of this. Is there any way to make this visible in the Roon software?

And, I am NOT looking for delay switch or such…only to visually show what play speed is needed versus the actual play speed.

And for tech geeks. My network is modern and fast and complies with Roon ‘regulations’.

And, I am in Europe and therefore NOT an Apple user. (instead Windows 11 ‘latest’ + Android ‘latest’ + Chromebook ‘latest’ + Zorin OS pro (Linux) ‘latest.

Thanks,

from a Roon addict called Hans

Can you expand on “wrong speed”?

People with a vinyl record player will know what the wrong speed (aka r.p.m.) means when playing. My Roon stream sounds like a 45 R.P.M record being played at 33 R.P.M. Meaning my track is too slow. My question is. Can this be made visible in Roon.

To my knowledge there is no speed manipulation settings in Roon, so this sounds like something else being off in your system.

Are you grouping Audio Zones? This is the only time i have experienced similar flaws.
When one endpoint is out of sync with the other(s) the clocks need to adapt, and occasionally this has happened. Not like a 45rpm record sounding like being played at 33rpm, but when switching between them pitch differences are obvious.

As a vinyl user, I know what you mean, but I never had such a situation with Roon.

transport to your player is digital, and conversion is done by your player with DAC. Data Stream is either constant or buffered. But it should not sound as you describe. There might be an issue with something in your setup.

Thanks MIkael,

I only want to know if such an option exists in Roon. Else I am not investigating why it happens.

I can live with this feature.

I only encounter problems with certain electronic music types where there is no way to know what is right. When someone is speaking or singing it is immediately clear.

There is no option to show playback speed since Roon does not have any settings to change the speed, I.e it will always playback in the speed the recording was done at (1x)

If its sounds like song plays at wrong speed, then there is a technical error in your system. For this I would reccomend opening a support case, if you want to fix this issue.

Maybe its intension, that the music sounds like slow. Maybe you have an expample.

Playback speed is determined by the sample rate, e.g., 44,100 samples per second. Roon has no influence on this since the DAC controls timing*. If you are experiencing something unusual, please share some example tracks.

However, if playback stops when things go awry, there is probably an issue somewhere in your system.

*As @Mikael_Ollars alludes, zone grouping takes a different approach.

The only thing I can think of that impacts speed other than those servers specifically designed to do so (432 EVO) is a DAC that has issues with 44.1 and 48k families. Some older DACs couldn’t handle 48k streams and simply played what it received at the wrong (faster?) speed.
