Describe the issue

Roon Radio and playlists* do not function.

After a track (local or streaming) ends, Roon Radio does not continue playing.

*This also happens on playlists when moving from one artists' track to another artists' track. Playback stops and does not continue to the next track

Roon Radio is turned on in the Queue section, and all Play Actions that can use the Start Radio setting are turned on.

Albums play fine.

This issue has only started since the most recent update.

Describe your network setup

I'm using KEF LSX speakers wired from a NUC (ethernet-> router-> speakers)with ROCK installed. Reboots do not fix the issue

Hi @Bobby-Millions,

What is the model of router you’re using in this setup? The KEF LSX relies on UPnP for device discovery with RoonServer, which will involve firmware in the speaker, the router, and RoonServer itself.

Outdated firmware can limit/disable UPnP functionality in the router. We see device discovery and track transition errors in diagnostics that precede the most recent Roon update, so we want to reduce the variables involved to investigate further.

Hi Connor.

I’m running a Netgear 6400, Firmware Version V1.0.0.114_1.0.114.

When I get some time where the router can be upgraded I’ll get this version installed [D6400-V1.0.0.94_1.0.94]

EDIT on second thoughts, I think the version I have is more current.

As a note; I have found that the tracks actually do play, eventually.

I had a track sitting there while I was screenshooting the image I attached, and had left it in that broken state, frustrated.

After about 10 minutes, it started! So I tested this with subsequent track in the radio and scrubbed to near the end of the track and watched it stop. After 10 minutes the next track played! I could replicate this 10 minute gap 4 times, seems to be exactly the same gap each time.

Hi @connor.

This issue is still happening.

I have factory reset the KEFs, they are running the most recent firmware. The router is running its most recent firmware. The KEFs play all other audio outputs fine.

Shuffling tracks within albums works fine.
Shuffling tracks within a playlist with different artists does not.
Roon Radio does not work.

This is when using the KEF LSX speakers as the output.

Using the Chromecast as the output seems to work fine with Roon radio.

When using the KEF LSXs as the output Roon Radio or switching between artists no longer works.

A playing track, most times, sits with one or zero seconds to play and will not play the next track in Roon radio or a playlist (when it’s changing artists within that playlist)

Any troubleshooting ideas?

@connor Any chance someone can pick this up for me? I havent had any responses from support staff about the issue since your reply six days ago.

I’ve fallen through the cracks :anguished:.

Is there another support channel that is more appropriate?

Hi @Bobby-Millions,

Thanks for your patience so far!

Can you be more specific with the firmware version? We had difficulties finding any recent update it regards to the LSX.

And my apologies if this has been glazed over, but are you able to maintain playback when using the system output of one of your remote devices? I see you have a few available you should be able to temporarily test with - let me know if this is possible, thank you! :raised_hands:

Hi @benjamin

KEF LSX are running version 5.2 of firmware.

Regarding playback. Yes, I can playback Roon radio and playlists from the Roon app installed on my phone and tablet to their outputs. I can also playback Roon radio and playlists through the KEF speakers via Chromecast without any issues.

Previously, before it completely broke, there would be a short low frequency ‘pop’ from the KEFs when using them as the output source between Roon radio and playlist tracks, which was annoying but I could live with.

I was also getting the “Roon lost control of the device” quite frequently.

Hope this helps.

@connor @benjamin

Tagging in support again to hopefully get some clarity on the issue. It’s been 5 days since the last response.

Looking forward to troubleshooting this further.

I have the same problem. I have test when I play the music sample rate is 96/24, if next music is 96/24 it will play the music. If next music is other sample rate such as 44.1/16. It will not play the next music.

Hi @Jaypee_Yeung . This seems to be what I’m experiencing as well.

I’ve created a playlist with different formats to test.
This has a combination of MP3s and FLACs, with various bit depth and sample rates, also local and streaming files.

Interestingly, the local 48kHz mp3 transitions to the 48kHz FLAC without issue.

The KEFs are set to 192kHz max sample rate and 24 bit max bit depth.

@benjamin @connor
I think this issue start from Roon version 2.0(build 1480). Now I already update to version 2.0(build 1483). But still have this issue. Can you follow up this case?

Bumping. It’s been another week. :anguished:

I’m not asking too much for a support ticket to be replied to in this time-frame, am I?

Reading this topic has been very educational.

I’ve been experiencing the same issues while playing audio via Airplay. I thought it was related to the Airplay protocol, but now I see this is not the case.

In my experience, I start playing a playlist and sometimes I see what I call a “Knight Rider effect” on the progress bar for a few seconds as if Roon is trying to load the track and then it stops. Sometimes it plays for hours without issue and sometimes is a per track occurrence.

Right now I was playing said playlist and it was working fine. I had to lower the volume to hear a video and now it’s on a track per track and “knight rider effect” mode.

I’m beginning to wonder if this problem is volume level dependent or something…

Hi everyone,
Thank you for reaching out and letting us know about the issue you encountered. We understand how this can impact your experience, and we truly appreciate your feedback.

At the moment, our team is focused on addressing a few higher-priority concerns that affect overall functionality. While this particular issue isn’t on our immediate roadmap, we’ve made a development ticket for it, and we’ll be sure to address it as soon as we’ve resolved the more critical items.

Thank you for your understanding and patience. If there’s anything else we can assist you with in the meantime, please feel free to reach out.

I have the same problem too. Running KEF LS50W with Mac Studio as server and full Ethernet connection.

I think there will be a lot of users out there with the same problem.

It would be great to be able to play a playlist for Christmas…

The update to Build 1490 has worked for me.

Thanks Team!

Make that on Build 1490, when playing a playlist playback stops at the end of the track most of the time, no longer every track, you might get a run of 2-4 songs that play without stopping, then it’ll stop after every track.

Yeah, Not fixed for me @Rob_Rowland, Rob. It is still borked when trying to change between bit depth and/or sample rate. I dont think this build worked on this issue, but that’s cool.

I am a patient boy
