Roon Radio focusing on Christmas music instead of selected artist (ref#P6QB21)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· I'm getting inundated with CHRISTMAS MUSIC! I am playing ROON Radio at the artist level. Leon Redbone is my current artist. It continually returns to both Bing Crosby and Leon Redbone Christmas Albums along with others to play Christmas music. Can you please fix this? My frustration level is very high when I have to push >> after almost every other song. I'm running Roon on my Synology NAS. I don't know the version.

IIRC, In theory this only happens if the starting album/track you were playing before Roon Radio took over had Holiday in its genre types.

Are you able to check the album/track at the beginning of your current Roon Radio queue.

If that album/track has Holiday in its genre type, you can edit the album/track to remove the Holiday genre.

There are other workarounds but no clear avoidance nor genre ban available per se.

Are these tracks local or from a streaming service. If local, maybe move the Holiday albums/tracks to a folder not watched by Roon.

Hello @rcbbryant,

I completely understand your frustration. Having to babysit the skip button to avoid Christmas music in the middle of March is definitely not the relaxing listening experience Roon Radio is meant to provide!

Mr.Flibble hit the nail on the head and pointed you in the exact right direction. Roon Radio’s algorithm relies heavily on genre tags to build its upcoming queue. If the artist you started with (like Leon Redbone) or the specific album/track that seeded the radio session has “Holiday” or “Christmas” listed anywhere in its primary genres, Roon Radio will latch onto that tag and start pulling in similar holiday content from other artists.

To help us stop this holiday takeover, could you please check a couple of details for us?

  1. File Source

Are the Leon Redbone tracks you are playing your own local files stored on your Synology NAS, or are you streaming them through a service like TIDAL or Qobuz?

  1. Check the Genre Tags

Please navigate to the specific Leon Redbone album or artist page where you initiated Roon Radio.

  • Look at the Genres listed just below the title/artist name.
  • Do you see “Holiday”, “Christmas”, or anything similar listed there?

Would you let me know what you find in those genre tags? Once we know exactly where the tags are coming from, we can walk you through editing or filtering them out so you can get back to normal listening!

Hi @rcbbryant,

At your convenience, please verify whether or not there is a Holiday tag embedded with the affected local tracks.

If you’re encountering erroneous Christmas music from streaming services when using Roon Radio, please share an example track here so our team can investigate the relevant metadata.

We’ll watch for your response. Thank you!
