Description Of Issue
It seems like there have been a whole lot of posts on this in the last couple of weeks. I just got Roon yesterday and am using a trial account, but if this isn’t resolved I’ll have to give up on Roon, which will be disappointing since my friends really like it and thought I would too.

Whenever go to an artist and hit “play now”, (Air, for example), it fails to play and says “Roon Radio: Nothing Similar To Play”. I don’t really have anything substantial in my library yet, as I was going to start by primarily using streaming services. Sometimes it plays for 1-2 seconds before stopping.

The way I listen to music is often by hitting a “shuffle whatever is sort of similar to this” like with Pandora, so this kind of functionality is really important to me.

I have Tidal and Qobuz.

I looked at my windows firewall settings and it should be letting roon.exe through. I don’t have any router-level firewall.

This looks like it’s a widespread issue that’s been happening for weeks. The fact that it’s widespread and unresolved for so long does not build confidence, especially since after the trial you’re going to bill me for a whole year instead of monthly.

I went to link you to all of your cases that are open about this, and got an error that new users can only include 2 links per post. That’s also an annoying sharp edge. Here are the first two, followed by post ids:

I confirmed I can ping/reach swim.roonlabs.net. Your server is returning an error on the /session/continue API, but is succeeding on the /session/return API as you can see in the logs. It’s technically possible it could be a network timeout mis-categorized as a server error, but I find that unlikely with a response time of just over 300ms.

How many customers is this impacting? Does the engineering or ops team monitor the session/continue API success rate or number of customers encountering errors?

I disabled TIDAL, restarted Roon, and still get the error. Similar signature in the logs (I have Quboz on free trial too):

This is an issue that is affecting a small number of our customers when it comes to starting Radio playback. We’ve done some investigating here and we believe that we’ve found the issue and we have a ticket open with our development team to resolve this problem.

I can’t provide any specific timelines just yet, but we hope to have this resolved soon and we will be sure to keep you updated.

Hi @David_Y,

Our team is continuing to look into this and we believe it may be specifically impacting new users with little playback history. If you go to the History section of Roon how many Plays does it show that you have?

I have 91 plays so far, and I’m still able to reproduce it. I think most plays are on TIDAL FWIW, I probably have very few on Qobuz. However I just tried removing Qobuz and keeping Tidal on, and the problem still happens.

Any progress here? It looks like it’s continuing to affect new customers, with some reports of old customers too.

Again, the error logs show your cloud service returning an HTTP 500 error, so I expect that this is shouldn’t be all that hard to track down once someone digs in and investigates, adds more logging or metrics, etc. It seems like the issue is just too low on the pile of bug reports to get the team to dig in, is that right? Any ETA to someone getting to this?

I have only 57 tracks imported (use streaming mostly). 223 plays now.

It worked!!! I can start from am artist and hit “play”, using roon radio! Happy day! Thank you and the engineering team! This makes it way easier to just “listen to music without having to think too hard.
