We went through the logs from October 2 to 4. The Lina’s network connection to Roon drops and comes back on a new port: twice on October 2 (about 2:19 pm and 2:24 pm MT, with five failed reconnects each time, so the Lina did not answer for about six minutes) and again around 2:23, 2:41, and 2:43 pm MT on October 4. The Platin Stereo Hub kept the same port the whole time, so this is only the Lina.
This matches what you saw. On October 4 at about 2:11 pm and 2:26 pm MT, the Lina did not answer Roon’s request to start playback within 15 seconds, and on October 2 at 2:56 pm MT it ended the connection in the middle of a track. The Lina’s signal path no longer includes a DSD stage, so DSD upsampling is not the trigger.
Your Versions screenshot shows Network board 1.4.4 (529) with no update available, so the firmware is current. Since the drops happen on the Lina’s side, please contact dCS support and pass on the details above, including the times and the firmware version. Please also tell us whether you power-cycled the Lina around 2:40 pm MT on October 4.
Update on this ticket. After replacing the modem, which according to my ISP it was only supposed to be a modem and not have an integrated router, I would start playing music and the music would eventually stop playing. No error messages but if i hit the play button the music would start playing again. These connection drops were happening on the dates mentioned - Oct 2 and 4. I asked my ISP tech support if the modem had a router they said yes. I disabled it. This change has stopped the connection drops while playing music. However yesterday when i attempted to play music I started getting the original error messages “starting playback on your device this may take a moment” then “audio device refused to switch input to Roon”. Could you look at the logs and let me know what is causing this? Thanks
Thanks for the update, and good to hear that disabling the router in the new modem stopped the dropouts during playback.
We checked the logs for the errors you saw. They all happened on October 10 between about 4:13 pm and 6:43 pm MT. Your network had just changed at that point, and the Lina got a new network address: before that afternoon it was at 192.168.4.22, and from 6:42 pm MT it showed up at 192.168.4.31. In between, Roon was trying to reach the Lina at its old address and got no answer, which is what produced “audio device refused to switch input to Roon”. As soon as the Lina appeared at its new address, playback worked again, and we don’t see any of these errors after that.
So this was a side effect of the network change rather than a new problem. To avoid it in the future, we’d suggest setting a DHCP reservation for the Lina (and ideally your Nucleus) in your router’s settings, so they always keep the same address. And if you change anything on the network again, power-cycling the Lina afterwards helps it pick up its new address right away.
Please let us know if the error comes back, with the approximate time.
So, the October 10 error between 416 and 642pm MT was happening on my Lina. I got a loaner Lina at 643pm that same day and plugged it into the network. This is a completely different Lina hence the different IP and no errors. What I would like to understand is what errors existed between 416 and 642pm MT on October 10? The shop that gave me the loaner said they are unable to replicate the network issue on my Lina in their shop.
I still have the loaner Lina plugged into my network and Roon stopped playing twice today. Once this morning and around 1pm today MT.
Update. Roon stopped playing twice this morning between 9 & 1030amMT. I am able to restart it after it stops. Note this is using the new modem with the router disabled and I am using a different dCS Lina(its a loaner from the stereo store I bought the other dCS from. What this dCS loaner hasnt done yet is throw the “starting playback on your device this may take a moment” then “audio device refused to switch input to Roon” error. I have to return the dCS loaner Saturday. Also the store has my original dCS and they cant replicate the starting playback on your device this may take a moment” then “audio device refused to switch input to Roon” error
Another update. Logged ticket with dCS and they arent seeing any issues with my dCS. This dCS is setup at the shop i purchased it from and the employees at the shop have been working with dCS. So this would rule out any hardware issues etc. with that unit.
