thanks for checking. The settings remain the same since I have not adjusted them. So far it has been good connection except once when I was trying to connect the chromecast in the bedroom (approx june 26) but I think that was due to the weak wifi signal that I was getting at the time. I have since moved the AP to a better spot . In my main system ,touch wood ,so far so good with Roon app stability.
QUESTION - My Imac Roon Core is connected by ethernet at approx 700-800 mbs.. If I implement wifi instead of internet at approx 500-700mbs for Roon Core Imac, will that be stable normally?
Wifi can be degraded by environmental issues and Wifi is not bi-directional simultaneously, it can only send or receive data at any one point, which can also be an issue for near real time transfer. Since you have transfers coming in from a streaming service and processed music going out (remember Roon turns flac into PCM and sends the PCM stream which is multiple times larger than the flac) simultaneously.
But, you can try it if you want. While it might work, and has for many, if any problems develop, the first step will probably be putting it back on ethernet to eliminate wifi as any source of issues.
thank you for the input re wifi vs ethernet.. on my Imac/Roon Core I have held off on upgrading from Sequoia to Tahoe. Can you tell me if Tahoe is fully compatible and stable with Roon as Sequoia?
With the initial Tahoe release, Apple introduced a handful of issues issues, but the later updates from Apple really stabilized things.
The most noteable issue is a Local Network permission race: Some Mac users on Tahoe report audio devices disappearing after a reboot, a Local Network permission race condition with RAATServer. There’s a workaround (toggle Local Network access for RoonServer in System Settings → Privacy & Security, then restart). The behavior stems from the newer, stricter Local Network permission controls in the recent macOS releases.
If your Sequoia setup is working great and you’re not itching for a Tahoe feature, there’s no urgency to switch, but you’ll most likely be completely fine doing so if you’d like to.
