Roon reports ARC configuration good but can't connect outside network

When I set up Roon ARC using a PC on my home network, I do not get an error message. Instead, Roon reports “Roon ARC can securely access your Roon Core. Your Roon Core was automatically configured and has be been confirmed to be securely accessible by Roon ARC.”

And when I use Roon ARC on my iphone inside my house using my home wifi network, it works fine.

However, when I try to use Roon ARC on my iphone when not on my home wifi network, I can’t connect to my Roon Core.

Because Roon is reporting that everything is set up correctly and not giving me an error message, I don’t know where to begin to fix the problem.

I had the same problem. To solve it, I had to connect to my router as admin, and set up port forwarding for the port numbers shown on the Settings > ARC page.

Thanks so much, Andre. That seems to have done the trick.

I’ll add a weird wrinkle I encountered, in case it proves of benefit to anyone else with a similar problem:

When I logged onto my router, it did not show that there was any port forwarding in place to the sonicorbiter where I have my Roon core installed. So, as suggested, I set up port forwarding to the IP address of the sonicorbiter using the port shown in Roon. I then received an error message that the port was already in use.

I figured that meant that some other device on the network was using that port, so I set up port forwarding using a different port. My plan was to then input that port into the Roon setup screen. But as soon as I set up my router with port forwarding for a different port, my router displayed both the new port forwarding and the prior one, with both linked to my sonicorbiter with my Roon core.

It seems as if perhaps Roon had configured the router automatically as it reported and added that port forwarding, but for some reason it didn’t take effect until I went into the router and added a different port forwarding. Strange, but it seems to have solved the problem.

Thanks again Andre.
