Roon restricts T+A MP 2500 R to 192 kHz (ref#MCLEP9)

Hi everybody,
Qobuz offers HR recordings at 352.8 kHz 24Bit. However Roon seems to limit a T+A 2500R to 192 kHz. The T+A app correctly plays at 352.8 kHz but Roon plays only 192 kHz. Seems to be a limit in the roon app, as the highest selectable bitrate is 192. Has anybody an idea how to overcome this limit.
Many thanks in advance

Please share an image of the signal path. Thanks.

In Roon - Settings - Services, Qobuz is indeed limited to 192 kHz (or higher frequencies are not selectable)
So I’am afraid you will need to launch a feature request fot this.

Judging the signal path. The original Qobuz file is 176.4 kHz. Not 352.8 kHz.

I’ve checked the album with my desk setup. And it plays as 176.4 kHz as well.

There exist published technical data for the device:

So it seems 192 kHz is all you get for the MP 2500 R.

The MP 2500 R G3’s streaming client (board) on the other hand may be rated higher but is not (separately) Roon Ready certified and also not the device you have (as of your own writing here and in your other thread).

If you own the MP 2500 R G3, please ask T+A support about why they did not certified that device and if they have plans to do it in the future so owners can use the higher resolution with Roon.

Qobuz does not allow for streaming of DSD or DXD (384) either in its own Application, or, in Roon. You need to buy such media and then play it on hardware which can handle those resolutions.

Qobuz definitely does support streaming DXD, Using the T+A app is working fine. It’s Roon which limits it to 192. That’s simply what it is.

It simply is that the MP 2500 R, according to T+A, does not support more than 192 kHz.

DXD is not DSD though.

Can you back up this claim with some evidence please? It’s pretty well known it supports max of 192/24, anything higher is for purchase and download only.

The only way to get higher than 192/24 from Qobuz is if the stream is MQA encoded and you have a DAC/streamer that can decode it. However the stream itself would be 44.1/24 of 48/24 the rest is all decoding and upsampling on the hardware.

Also this is off their site, hard to argue against their own literature here.

Hi Walter,

Sounds like you have a MP2500R and not the updated MP2500R G3.

If you have a MP2500R then it’s correct. Via the network interface, the max is 192/24.
https://www.ta-hifi.de/en/audiosystems/r-series/mp-2500-r-multi-source-player/

The newer MP2500R G3 does support higher sampling/bit rates as well as native DSD (up to 256) via the network interface.
https://www.ta-hifi.de/en/audiosystems/r-series/mp-2500-r-g3-multi-source-player/

If you wish to play higher sampling rates/DSD files then your option is to connect the player to your NUC with a USB cable. And install the proprietary USB driver on your NUC (see “support” > “firmware/driver” under the first page above)

Hope this helps.
Ray

Are you sure that the T+A app/device is not doing it’s own upsampling of the incoming stream. That is what happens when I play that album through Roon. Get sent 24/176.4 and Roon upsamples it.

Qobuz’ own desktop app does not support streaming that album at that resolution.

Here is the Max Listening Quality as set in the Qobuz app…

As already pointed out, this is incorrect. For reference, here is the Qobuz guide stating that DSD and DXD are available only for purchase.

So, please post yer signal path!

Hi @Walter_Eckardt,

Thank you for your post.

To confirm what’s happening, we need to see the Signal Path for the condition described in your original post. Qobuz streaming is limited to 192KHz per their documentation; tracks in DSD and DXD format are available for download only.

Hi,
please read the doc carefully:

  • Qubuz limits streaming on their mobile apps only, not on non-mobile ones like the T+A app,
  • DXD is available for streaming as it is still PCM. Just try it, using the e.g. T+A app. It delivers DXD all the way to the T+A streaming board (which however in G2 appears to be limited to 192kHz).
  • The latter is what I would like Roon to do as well, especially as Roon offers two versions to select from (which however appear to be identical as Roon seems to wish to downsample the higher resolution one, assuming T+A couldn’t handle.)
Screenshots are probably not really helpful as the capture only what an app presents to the viewer) depending on screen capabilities, version, hardware of the underlying device etc.
  • to determine what really goes on, maybe wire shark would help, but I didn’t do that so far . sorry for this.

And as I’ve shown with pictures above, this is not the case. Qobuz’ own desktop application is limited to 24/192.

You seem to be able to do so through the T+A app, please post screen shots of the app, as according to all published data this should not be possible.

In Qobuz document with the link posted above you will find these two comments.

Available quality: 24 Bits/352.8 kHz. You can purchase these formats from the download store, as well as in our desktop applications and web player.

There is no mention of being able to stream this resolution, only purchase.

But more importantly, it states this…

The DSD and DXD formats are now also available for purchase; these formats are not available for streaming.

Hi @Walter_Eckardt,

Feel free to send over a screenshot of your Signal Path at any point!

We’re only able to go off of the documentation Qobuz provides, which does point to DSD and DXD only being able for purchase.

I encourage you to create a thread over in our Feature Suggestions for the above. The is the place to post for all things not yet available, but on your Roon wish list! :+1:
