Roon Rock: Multiple Data Drives?

I currently have a Roon Rock device with two internal drives - a small M2 for the OS and a 4TB SSD for music. I’m beginning to run out of space on my 4TB drive and wanted to know if/how I can add a 4TB external SSD drive. If I can add the second drive - how do I format and setup for Roon to recognize the drive? Also, I have a separate folder for each artist in my current data drive. I do not want to have two folders for an artist - one on each drive, so can you safely copy entire folders from the current drive to the new drive without impacting the Roon database?

Just plug it in. It doesn’t need special formatting. You will need to point Roon at it. I would then personally split my files alphabetically if that is how you have arranged it. A to L, M to Z or something like that. And of course the big one. Back it all up.

Yep just plug it in ROCK will recognize it and will give it a REALLY long name , don’t edit the “given name” it will confuse Roon.

Copying from one drive to another , Roon will autocorrect the “Path” , it will whir a bit but its not a big re-import thing.

I have a 4Tb SSD and added a 5Tb USB external, it just worked

I’m running an Intel Nuc, and I’ve been using an external HDD for my music storage.

I decided to switch to an SSD (Crucial X9 portable USB SSD) for reliability and lower noise. However, when navigating to my ROCK (via Mac OS Finder) the new SSD doesn’t show up (current HDD is still connected as I plan to copy my music files from the HDD to the SSD). It also doesn’t show in Roon on the Storage setup page where I would add a music folder.

I confirmed that the SSD is formatted in exfat by plugging it directly into my Macbook and checking disk utility.

Any ideas how I can get the drive to show in ROCK? I’ve tried restarting my Nuc with the new drive plugged in, but no luck.

Can you post a screenshot of Roon’s “Choose music storage folder” screen with the SSD plugged in to the NUC?

Here you go. The new SSD doesn’t show up here, nor does it show in Finder when navigating to ROCK > Data > Storage…only my existing HDD shows there. Using the up-arrow in Roon/Storage to go “up” the tree back to “Roon Optimized Core Kit” has no effect other than presenting an option in the lower left for “New Folder” within an existing drive.

Hmm, it’s odd. Have you tried reformatting it again as exFAT using your Mac utility to see if that will work?

I haven’t…

My Mac recognizes the drive right away. Odd thing is, my QNap NAS has a USB port for external storage and the NAS doesn’t recognize/see the SSD either.

The SSD is USB 3.2 and I need to use a USB A to USB C cable. Maybe there’s a USB compatibility issue with the Nuc and NAS as they are both several years old.

Could be the cable… Doesn’t Roon OS now support the USB C connector?

I reformatted the drive…no love there.
My Nuc only has USB A ports, and the SSD has USB C so I’m forced to use a conversion cable. I have a couple of A-to-C cables, but neither allow the SSD to show. The SSD LED does illuminate, so it’s getting power. Guess I need a “plan B”.
