Roon Rock on TrueNAS Scale VM

Hi. Has anyone managed to get Roon Rock installed as a VM on TrueNAS Scale? I have got the installer loaded on a USB with Legacy Bios but the bios doesn’t find the USB when booting. I was wondering what settings were used for the USB passthrough controller type or whether another workaround was used? Thanks

I had it on Proxmox as VM so no straight help, sorry. I did change it to Debian + Roonserver combo since I wanted to do some Display-tweaks.

I don’t really see any benefit of running ROCK as VM when a Debian + Roonservere-combo gives you more freedom. Only thing I can think of is the fact that ROCK has web-gui.

I couldn’t get the ROCK installer to boot from a TrueNAS CD or USB passthrough device so if anyone is interested in installing ROCK as a TrueNAS Scale VM then the solution/workaround I found was as follows:

(1) Install a (temporary) Linux desktop VM on TrueNAS or use an existing desktop VM
(2) Create a new zVol, 500MiB should be fine and attach it to the above VM
(3) Inside the above VM, download Balena Etcher and the official Roon ROCK image. Use Balena Etcher to flash the image to the zVol
(4) Power off the VM and remove the zVol
(5) Create a new VM, e.g. RoonROCK with two zVols - the one you flashed above and a new one for installing the ROCK OS onto. You will also need to attach a keyboard to the TrueNAS box and pass this through to the RoonROCK VM via USB passthrough so you can go through setup
(6) After installing ROCK, remove the flashed zVol
